Short Summary

I was born in rural village in western Kenya where I used kerosene lamps for studying. I was greatly affected and many of my friends dropped out of school. I decided to do something. In 2004 while I was 19 years old, i designed a simple solar lamp from mostly recycled materials which I call 'Mwangabora'.

Through my organization, Sustainable Development For All (www.sdfa-kenya.org), I have been distributing the solar lamps to poor rural families through women groups, and then helping the women set up income projects from the money they would have otherwise spent on kerosene. The solar lamps are greatly improving education for children and on my birthday on 11th March, I kindly ask you to help me provide this GIFT to 100 poor rural children in Kenya.

What We Need

We want to raise $2500 since each solar lamp costs us $25 to locally make. the lamps will be used by 100 families thsu directly impacting over 500 people.

The Impact

Each $25 will benefit at least 5 people and help at least 3 children study well. In addition, the mothers of all the children who will get the solar lamps will be trained in business skills and encouraged to save the money they would have otherwise spent on kerosene. They will then use the savings to start at least 1 income generating project after 4-6 months. The income project will not only provide them with a regular source of income but will also help them be self reliant and live happier lives.
