For almost 40 years, Ken Smith has been a positive influence in the lives of children, young adults and their families as a music educator. He has given every person who had an interest in music an opportunity to express themselves in not only an educational environment, but also one that is fun and hospitable.
To our wonderful friends, families, and supporters,
It is with utmost respect and celebratory gratitude that we inform you the retirement of Ken Smith, a long-time band director, colleague, friend, father-figure, role model, and highly-appreciated music mentor of Vallejo, California.
After 38 years of educating the youth in musical performance, composition, arrangement, marching band competition, concerts, and the highest standards of musical appreciation, Mr. Smith will be parting ways with the Vallejo City Unified School District after the 2012-2013 school year comes to a close.
Mr. Smith has not only been a band director to hundreds and hundreds of students, but also an all-around educator who has opened his heart and has shared his passion for music to parents, families, and supporters of a universal language that has been uniting us all.
His journey toward retirement has included schools such as Beverly Hills Elementary, Franklin Junior High, Hogan High, and Jesse Bethel High. Under his positive direction, students have competed in hundreds of competitions and have been recognized with a countless amount of awards, trophies, and recognitions. As a result of his influence, many of his students have become music directors, composers, producers, or have continued on to many other music-related professions.
What We Would Like To Give
We know that Mr. Smith would love to go on a trip to Boston or Italy. With that in mind, we decided that we would give him a vacation package, not only sending him to one of the destinations, but with your help, to both. Our goal is to raise $10,000 so that we can make this dream vacation a reality for Mr. Smith.
You get the option of symbolically buying Mr. Smith certain parts of the vacation through the amount you choose to donate.
Think of How Happy He'll Be
We all love and appreciate Mr. Smith and what he has done for all of us, and this gift will be the smallest indication of that. Each and everyone's contribution is highly appreciated and will not go without being acknowledged.
