Oliver, June, and Michael were inseparable until a terrible accident set them on separate paths. Now, after three years, Oliver is returning home, hoping to avoid his past. But June won’t let him. Will their relationship be rekindled or are some bonds meant to be broken? 

Shooting November 17-21 2022, “Chasing June” is a proof-of-concept short film co-written by Shelby Slager and Nathan Slager Leatherman and co-directed by Shelby Slager and Alana Areyzaga. It will be shot in the suburbs of Chicago. Using magical realism and stylized flashbacks, we plan to capture the malaise of Oliver’s return to Midwestern suburban life, how repressed trauma can haunt you in unexpected ways, and the struggle of loving and hating someone at the same time. 

For a budding team of young filmmakers like us, crowdfunding is pivotal to making this project a reality. Even small-scale film sets are expensive. Equipment rentals, locations, and making sure no one works on an empty stomach all require your help.

We are hoping to raise $10,000 to cover both production and post-production costs. While we are very lucky to have a lot of our cast and crew volunteering their time, there are some positions we will need to pay. If we exceed our funding, we would love to be able to compensate more of our cast and crew members for their time. 

Our funding will go towards equipment rentals, truck rental, location permits, production design, crafty and catering, post-production, and festival submission costs.
