The majority of the funds will be going towards shipping the tiers to you as well as funding the artists for their contributions. The remaining funds go towards printing the physical books, all taxes and fees involved in transactions across the project, as well as all the tier extras (Bookmarks, prints, stickers, pencils)
Twice each week we'll be revealing the design for the prints, bookmarks and stickers that are included in the tiers in an Indiegogo update and posts on the Chroma

Any extra money we raise goes straight back into the zine. The goal we've set is what we need to break even on the project so that all the artists get paid the amount desired for their services. If we break this goal and exceed our expectations, we have plans to possibly include more merchandise in the tier extras (more prints, charms etc) as well as pay the artists more for their contributions.
Our main risk is that we won't sell enough copies of the zine due to the limit of our combined marketing efforts. To break even on the zine and make sure that every artists is paid a decent amount, we've got a rough estimate of copies that need to be sold, hence our Indiegogo goal. If the full amount isn't reached, we will be forced to pay out of pocket to ensure that all the artists are paid fairly. Because of the way we are shipping the zine, it may take a lot longer to ship depending on how many copies are sold. We also may have delays due to unexpected reasons. Rest assured though, we've gone to great lengths planning every aspect of this zine, accounting for as many unexpected variables as possible.
Why does the zine cost that much?
With the purchase of the zine, both digital and physical, you're purchasing the ability to color the artist's work. We've essentially commissioned them for not only the pieces, but the rights to those pieces as well. By most artist's standards this would normally be classed as stealing but all the artists in the zine have agreed to share their work this way for the zine.
This zine isn't based off of any existing IP meaning the only draw to it is the premise and our combined followings. Since we are all relatively small artists, we only have small followings. As much as we'd like to estimate that we'd sell a million copies of the zine, it just isn't realistic so we've had to be conservative in our estimates so that all the artists still get paid. It rounds out to roughly $1 per artist after tax is taken out.
Why so few artists?
Since this is our first zine in terms of production, we've wanted to keep the scope of the project low so that the risk to the artists isn't too great - having too many artists increases the required amount of copies sold. We didn't want to risk the livelihood of artists just for the sake of increasing the roster. Most of us have been involved in a zine in some shape or form in the past and we know the dangers of an inflated scope. Not to mention the nature and approach we've taken to making this coloring book as well.
Will this be sold after the campaign ends as well?
Only the digital PDF version will available to purchase after the campaign ends - it'll be put up on Gumroad and a link will be provided on the Chroma Zine social media accounts. We'd only consider reprinting the zine if we receive enough attention and it would be economically possible to do such after the campaign ends.
Why is it invite only?
Again, we didn’t want any harm to possibly come to an artist that just wanted to apply to the zine. We’re using artists that trust us on a personal level because in the worse case scenario we can recover and they would understand.
Why are you using Indiegogo?
Indiegogo allows us to basically see our goals in real time, we know exactly how many books to print and how many PDF’s will be sold. It’s more of a safety precaution so that we don’t under or over estimate the amount of merch and books that we print in the end.
Where are the profits going?
All the profits are going to the artists that helped make the zine possible. We’re artists ourselves so we understand the need for artists to make money at the end of the day. This zine revolves around these artists allowing others to do what they will with their art so we wanted to make sure they're compensated as such.
Aside from profit the money for the physical copies are going to straight to printing and shipping costs. The books will pay for themselves and any profit after taxes, merch, printing, shipping, and the like will be given to the artists. The curators aren't taking any extra profits, only artists who created a piece will receive compensation.
When is the physical copy being sent out?
It's estimated two months at the soonest after the Indiegogo finishes we’ll be sending out the printed books! We’re estimating about two or three months after simply because it’ll take around that amount of time to receive the printed copies and ship them all out. As well as all the merchandise that needs to be printed that’s going along with the books.
What if there are delays? If there are any delays then you'll have our sincerest apologies. Everything we’ve set up is set to a very detailed schedule but unexpected things will always happen. Printing might get delayed with merch, or the books might take a little longer to get fully printed. We'll keep you up to date through Indiegogo updates and the social media accounts if anything happens or changes! We just ask you to bear with us if something happens and we promise to try and give you the best backer experience possible!
