Movies Are Supposed to be Fun
That is the basic idea behind CICADA! We aim to encapsulate what we all love about unpretentious B-movie cinema in an LA-centric story about bloodsucking insects.
It began with goofy concept shots, setting out to put a creature on screen that was both hilarious and terrifying. Homegrown animatics slowly evolved into an endearing mix of location footage, bluescreen, and amateur wire work that is uniquely CICADA!
Budget and Perks
Our goal is $30,000. An ambitious number for crowdfunding an indie film.
Equipment, stage rental, wire work, blue screen, locations, props, puppet design, set dressing and the usual costs of filmmaking are the up front obvious expenses. Beyond that is the cost of getting talented people to set daily. Passion isn't enough.
Time is the greatest currency of all. The greatest gift that reaching our goal grants us is the ability to carve out time to say this film happens NOW.

Why CICADA Matters
This film deserves to exist. This is cemented every time a new person encounters this trailer. The DNA of a ridiculous movie viewing experience is evident. We never set out to make this movie for any reason other than to make something fun together that makes other people laugh and gets them excited about our idea.
This is the type of movie we hope people will plan parties around. Groups of friends gathering around to laugh together. This is a film that will screen where fans of the genre can experience the funnest type of movie going.
A True Challenge
Put plainly, this film will be a tour de force of independent filmmaking. We will be up against the clock with a limited budget and just 15 days to wrap principal photography. Success will mean months of post production with an ambitious amount of effects shots for a film of this scale.
We want CICADA to be the most competently executed version of the script possible. That means pushing ourselves to achieve things beyond our budget and schedule each day we come to set. At the end of the journey we will be physically and creatively exhausted, but the reward will be the delivery of this unique film to those who helped make it possible.
