Cigars, Scotch, & Strategy
Gathering with friends, mentors, and peers while enjoying a cigar and some Scotch has long been an integral part of working in strategy (at least as long as I've been involved). I was initiated into this rite by two fantastic mentors first in the United States, then in Afghanistan. I continued the tradition as I moved on to graduate school and then on to the Pentagon.
Beginning in the summer of 2013, I started gathering folks interested in strategy at my house to converse over cigars and libations. It quickly grew as word of mouth spread - apparently the DC area is a hub for the strategically-minded. What began as bullshitting over beer and cheese and crackers turned into a large gathering of military members, civilian policy-makers, think tank fellows, and those just interested in a good conversation on military affairs. We've had the pleasure of hosting extremely varied speakers, such as Dr. Antulio Echevarria II, Dr. Sebastian Gorka, COL Sue Bryant, Dr. Mark Hagerott, and Dr. Mike Matheny. Each has added an amazing perspective on modern strategy.
We'd love to have you join our monthly gathering, but to continue to grow we need some help. Costs have accrued beyond what I'm capable of funding myself; from coins and drinks for guest speakers to event space, I could use some help from the crowd.
I'd welcome any donations you are willing to provide. If you provide $20 or more, I'll send you the same coin we provide our speakers.
