Perfect for trendsetters who are looking to experiment with new styles, the CJR AIRSPEED is a handsome watch that will get attention due to its unconventional layout with an accessible cost of entry. Featuring a beautifully curved case and regulator dial, the AIRSPEED speaks to vintage watches, but looks and feels like modern sculptures on the wrist. The AIRSPEED is inspired by a love of aircrafts and is made to resemble the dials in an airplane dashboard.
From the storm of ideas emerges a shape - an initial freehand sketch which captures the pure lines of the AIRSPEED.
While examining the technical specifications of the design, we asked ourselves these questions: How will the watch be powered? How will it transmit stored energy? Which materials guarantee the level of precision, reliability and quality required over the long term? Technical considerations, ergonomic details and dial design are pondered down to the tiniest detail and coordinated with one another.
The sketch is then given volume by 3D rendering, followed by two working prototypes. The curved case design and all other materials are thoroughly tested and improved in durability, water and air pressure resistance, as well as an overall homogeny in appearance and finish.
The regulator complication first appeared in the late 17th century and was used by watchmakers for verifying the rates of their creations. For those unfamiliar, a regulator is a watch in which the second, minute and hour hands are separated into sub-dials. With the AIRSPEED, a traditional vertical layout is swapped for a more asymmetric design, resulting in an unexpectedly modern take on this vintage design.
The curved casing is made from Hesalite crystal, a robust, shatterproof material that has gone into space on many occasions. With Hesalite, smudges are hardly visible on the AIRSPEED. It even gives the dial a warmer look. You’ll notice that the dome-shaped crystal extends to the very edge– making the watch look more crystal than metal. This is more than an elegant design feature, as it slightly magnifies the dial elements for better legibility from all angles and lighting conditions.

After carefully evaluating a number of options, we sensibly picked the Miyota 8219, an absolute tank of a ticker with an impeccable reputation since its debut in 1977. Beating to a frequency of 21,600 BPH / 3 Hz, Miyota has proven to be more accurate than most mechanical watches at 18,000 BPH / 2.5 Hz. The movement has 21 jewel to reduce friction and wear on moving parts, maintain temperature stability, and the ability to operate without lubrication, well above the 17 jewel average. Miyota also employs its own shock resistance technology called Parashock, making the watch more durable and perfect for multipurpose wear. With the massive 2-day / 45-hour power reserve, you do not need to constantly wind it. You can take it off on Friday and it will still be ticking on Sunday.
The markings on the dial and the hands are coated in in Super-LumiNova. A luminous dial and hands make it easy for you to check time at a glance, whether you’re in a movie or jetlagged in a dark hotel room. Luminance is only available on the pilot version of the AIRSPEED.
The beige dial is more business-casual than strictly formal. It is a
great daily wearer, not looking too out of place with a pair of jeans.
We also offer two alternatives: Pilot S/S and Vintage Sport. Go for a more classic look with this Pilot S/S version. The
black dial is now accented by a silvertone stainless steel frame.
Otherwise, you can pull of a sporty look with the Vintage Sport version. It comes in red and black hands against a beige dial.
