Clearwater is a place for women who have experienced trauma to find healing.
In 2012, a group of people devoted to trauma recovery founded Clearwater Center
for Healing, an Oregon-based nonprofit corporation. The purpose of
Clearwater is to offer
cleansing, restorative, and empowering programs for women
recovering from trauma. Clearwater provides a safe environment, a
sense of community and support, and access to comprehensive
and compassionate services. A pilot program in 2013 was very
successful.
In 2014, Clearwater needs to scale-up. The team will deliver five 8-week programs over the course of the year, spread our message, professionalize and train our peer staff, and make investments to secure Clearwater's future.
That's where you come in. We need help.
Clearwater is awaiting approval as a publicly supported, tax-exempt organization. Until we have that approval (which may take up to two years), we can't qualify for most grants, and we can't effectively use many of the traditional fundraising methods.
If we meet this fundraising goal, we can conduct outreach, insure against liability, train our peer staff, secure meeting spaces, and plan for the growth of Clearwater into a robust and vital organization that leads the way in trauma recovery.
What it Really Means
If you help us scale-up in 2014, we can deliver cleansing, restorative, empowering programs to as many as 50 women. In addition, these funds will help ensure we can stick around--and grow.
Clearwater's program not only helps individuals, it promotes the development of a healthy community. The lasting effects of trauma--which may stem from many different sources, from intimate partner violence to homelessness and war--are one of the most substantial factors in community deterioration. Our program brings healing, self-worth, and independence that is at the root of strong communities.
Still Not Sure?
Please watch our video. Or, Maybe our story can convince you.
One more thing: Clearwater is focused on delivering programs. Public support funds go directly to our programs and fundamental operations. Much of our work is done on a volunteer basis for no pay. As the organization grows, we will leverage our public support to grow and professionalize the organization.
