The PRIMO and its Full Immersion Vacuum Brewing process represents the first major advancement in Flavor Extraction technology in upwards of 100 years.
Traditional brewing methods rely on steeping, flow through and high pressure to soak, wash and blast flavor compounds out of ground coffee. However, coffee beans are sensitive, and they contain nearly as many flavor compounds as a wine grape, therefore it can be a challenge to consistently produce a great tasting brew free from rogue acids utilizing these antiquated traditional brewing methods.
The PRIMO offers new hope for a better coffee experience because we focused on improving the science of the brewing process instead of the mechanics of the brewing process. We modified the circumstances in which the chemical reaction occurs when hot water, ground coffee, and air (No Air in our case) come together to create brewed coffee. It results in a significant improvement in the quality of the coffee drinking experience; more flavor, no rogue acids, and no acidy aftertaste.
The PRIMO's Full Immersion State-of-Vacuum brewing method is not the same as siphon brewing. In fact, the PRIMO has little in common with a siphon/vacuum brewer. Siphon brewers do not brew in a vacuum, and merely pull coffee through a filter into the lower chamber via a siphon created by differential pressures.
The PRIMO actually removes atmosphere from within the vessel in order to brew in a state-of-vacuum, which is where the significant improvement in flavor extraction occurs. In fact, even though other brands use the name "Vac" or "Vacuum" in their name or description, they are only moving the coffee through a filter using the siphon principle. The PRIMO is a brand new design and a brand new way of extracting flavor, and no other coffee brewer on the market brews in a state of vacuum like the PRIMO!
Step 1: Load Coffee into Filter Basket
Step 2: Pour Hot Water into Vessel and Insert Filter
Step 3: Pull a Vacuum and let Brew for 45-60 Seconds
Step 4: Release Vacuum, Pour out & Enjoy!
The learning curve is easy, clean up is fast, and the results are everything you hoped cupped coffee could be!

Why The PRIMO Works:
Carbon Dioxide is the Culprit!
Coffee beans are roasted at upwards of 500 degrees F, and during that process carbon dioxide (CO2) becomes trapped inside the coffee beans. Trapped carbon dioxide helps as much as it hurts. You could think of it as sealing in the flavor compounds, which does help keep the coffee fresher longer, but its somewhat unpredictable nature also makes it more challenging to consistently brew a great cup of coffee.
Taking Control of the Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide is difficult to control and escapes in a random manner when exposed to air and hot water simultaneously. Sometimes it forms carbonic acid which can impart the acidy aftertaste we have all come to hate, and sometimes it will keep the flavor compounds sealed up in the ground coffee leaving you with a poor tasting imbalanced extraction. No matter what, the CO2 has to be released in order to release the flavor compounds, and for the first time in coffee brewing history, the PRIMO's patented Atmospheric Reduction Technology gives you the ability to release the CO2 in a controlled manner. When you control the chemistry, you control the quality!

Removing CO2 with Battery Pump
PRIMO Technology is Best Described by Henry's Law
Henry's Law is a gas law that describes the behavior of gases trapped in a solution, and the effects of atmospheric pressure upon those gases. In our case, the CO2 trapped in the ground coffee is released in a control manner when the atmospheric pressure inside the brewing vessel is lowered by creating a state-of-vacuum using a simple hand held vacuum pump.
The amount of CO2 trapped in any given sample of ground coffee can vary depending on its variety, where it was grown, and how it was roasted. The PRIMO's double wall borosilicate glass vessel allows for easy monitoring, and the simple hand held pump (either battery operated or manual) allows for precise control as to how much CO2 is removed, giving you the ability to customize the flavor extraction to your preferred taste profile, regardless of the variables present in any given sample of coffee.
Removing the CO2 from the ground coffee during the brewing process allows the coffee particles to absorb more water, which then promotes a more effective transfer of complex flavor compounds into the brew water.

The Product Development Process
After significant research I came to the conclusion that one of the few things the entire coffee world agreed on is that oxygen is bad for coffee. Therefore, I started out with the simple goal of removing oxygen during the brewing process. It seemed simple enough at first, but as the challenges unfolded I began to realize why this product didn't exist.
I modified/built/created just about everything you could think of, from Kombucha makers to wine flavor savers to come up with a system I could use to test my theories on the effects of removing oxygen during the brewing process. There were a lot more failures then there were successes, but in that mode of operation even the slightest bit of progress keeps you going to try something new.
We introduced the first version of the hot brewer in late 2021, which featured a stainless steel vessel matched with a Tritan plastic top, and while the process produced great coffee as evidenced by the amount of positive feedback we received, a Covid-19 era manufacturing issue resulted in our decision to remove it from the marketplace as a hot brewer by the end of 2022.
The PRIMO Advantage
We began the redesign of the hot brewer in early 2023 and introduced it on a pre-launch platform by the end of 2023 where it garnered much interest. We replaced the stainless steel with double wall borosilicate glass to increase the visual feedback which makes it easier to monitor the conversion point when the CO2 crosses the partial pressure threshold and escapes from the ground coffee. We have also modified the filter system for easier cleaning and are now offering a battery operated vacuum pump for those of us who are not interested in the slightest bit of manual labor in the wee hours of the morning.
The PRIMO Brewer is the culmination of everything we have learned to date and you really will have to taste it to believe it!
Our Plan for Producing the Product
While the chemistry of our process is advanced (as far as brewing coffee is concerned) the design of the equipment required is fairly straight forward. We have multiple manufacturers available in each component category and this will enable us to avoid getting locked in to any single supplier.
I have upwards of 20 years of custom manufacturing experience with much of it being spent working with some of the largest food manufacturing companies in the USA. I worked closely with these companies from design stage, through engineering, and into the final manufacturing stages for products that are household names.
Focused on the Filter
The stainless steel filter will need to be custom made, however, the technology involved to produce 200 micron stainless steel filtering systems is well developed and we foresee no problems in getting our design ready for manufacture and produced within the 5 month estimated delivery window.
Borosilicate Glass
We love borosilicate glass and as you may have noticed (in the earlier pan shot), we have collected many samples for testing over the years. While borosilicate glass is just as breakable as typical soda lime glass, it is significantly more resilient to temperature swings and can be produced in a greater variety of configurations. Our specification requirements will be higher than what is typically produced in the current marketplace (due to the vacuum sealing capability necessary), however, the double wall borosilicate glass industry is well developed and there are a number of high quality sources for us to choose from to have our vessels produced.
Food Grade Vacuum Pumps
While there are numerous suppliers offering hand held food storage vacuum pump devices, we have taken the time to test the best candidates and believe the system we have decided on is the best of the best. We have been testing this model for well over a year now with no issues and are fully confident it will be a reliable product well into the future. It is readily available in mass produced quantities and we foresee no problems in meeting the 5 month delivery window. Better still, as a back up plan we will also be sending a manual pump along in the standard package, so, you'll never have to go without coffee if a problem does occur, or you simply run out of batteries.
Future Projects we are Working on:
- A.R.T. Tea Mug Brewer
- Automated Version of the PRIMO with Integrated Water Heater
- Super Intense (espresso style) 2:1 Brewer
The Team Behind the Project
The NoAir PRIMO Team
We are a small family business (father, mother, and daughter) working hard at introducing this new technology to the market, on a shoestring budget. I guess you could say it's the classic Americana; small family business battling the big budgets of the marketing focused corporations.
We originally discovered and developed this technology in 2020 and applied for the permanent patent the following year. It has been quite a saga, but we finally received our patent approval in April of 2024. It truly is a one-of-a-kind technology and we believe it takes coffee brewing to the next level.
We are a tight knit family and believe in loyalty. When you purchase a PRIMO Coffee Brewer you become part of that family. We believe in what we’re doing and are dedicated to the cause of providing a better experience for the coffee drinkers of this world.

Risks and challenges
This is a brand new product and therefore our biggest challenge will be developing and honing our supply chain into an efficiently functioning team. We will be bringing in large volumes of product from at least four or possibly five different suppliers, and there is always an adjustment period in fine tuning a new supply chain. I have always found that detailed communications, properly conveyed specifications, and effectively negotiated contracts make the difference between success and failure in these situations.
The mechanical nature of our components is fairly basic, and all of the industries from which they will be acquired are well developed. Therefore, I feel the risks of being able to acquire top quality products in a timely manner are low. Finally, as demonstrated by our continual presence on crowdfunding platforms and our eCommerce site www.noaircoffee.com, over these past three years, we are in business to stay in business. We are already working on our transition plan to move from crowdfunding into the mainstream marketplace for the PRIMO, and now, with our patent in hand, we believe we are in a better position than ever to capitalize on this great opportunity to bring a better experience to the coffee drinkers of this world.
