Who We Are
Hi were Adrianne and Rick, Co founders of Kids International
Development Society (KIDS). In March 2000 our only child and dearest daughter
Danielle was killed by a drunk driver, she was 21. Our search to find healing
and meaning in our lives led us to the formation of KIDS and today we are a
registered Canadian Charity. Each year we volunteer for three to four months
mostly in S.E. Asia and primarily Cambodia. Our focus is on education, clean
drinking water and health care. We work with local people and organizations and
oversee the projects ourselves making sure that the funds donated are wisely
spent and directly assist children, families and communities in need. Over the past thirteen years we have
successfully funded and supported: schools, clinics, solar water systems for
schools, classrooms, children’s hospitals, a girl’s home, women’s weaving
cooperative and other family and educational supplies.
Our Campaign
Education is a
priority for KIDS and we see first hand how developing minds changes lives.
We are presently working with a rural school where 1500 children attend and
heard of their desire to learn computer skills. Computer skills can assist
young people to attend University as well as give them an opportunity to find
employment and help support their families.
They have the classroom, the teacher, electricity and hundreds of kids
have the passion all they need is Your Support to buy the computers and create
a computer lab for these dedicated young people.
What We Need
We are hoping to
raise $7,000.00 The funds will renovate a classroom and purchase 25
computers where classes will run regularly for high schools students.
The Costs
·
25 computers @ 183.00 each $4575.00
·
Renovations (tile, ceiling, paint, wiring) $1700.00
·
Printers, electrical work, computer maintenance
$725.00
Total $7000.00
The Impact
We have witnessed first hand how education has changed
children and youth’s lives. We have known young people, who thanks to educational support,
have finished University and now have good paying jobs and can help support
their families. We have seen children learn and grow and be able to escape the
difficult life of working in a brick factory as a child labourer. We work with many Cambodian people who have
faced unthinkable tragedy and now dedicate their lives to helping their own
people. These changes are made possible through education and hard work. Who knows where one computer will lead!
