My name is Navdeep Toor. I want to raise money for underprivileged students at Hathur Primary School in India. Your donation will allow me to buy computers and uniforms.

In January 2014, I had the opportunity to travel to a local public school in India.  This school was in need of a water system, which would allow children to have access to clean and safe drinking water. The school did not have any funding from the government to support such an initiative and the parents of these students were not able to donate money since they were struggling to make ends meet themselves. When my family heard they needed clean drinking water, we headed down to the school.  The school is also very dear to my heart since my father went to school here as a child and my grandmother taught here as well.  The school was filled with the welcoming smiles of 275 students who were eager to meet us. This school had 5 classrooms which taught children from kindergarten to grade 5. Through the time I spent at the school and with the students, I noticed that this all-boys school did not have the same equipment and supplies as Canadian schools.. There weren’t any projectors, computers, or even round tables to work on. Each classroom consisted of single student desks set out in rows, and a chalkboard where the teacher would conduct her lessons.  I realized at this moment I wanted to donate more than just money for a clean water supply.  I made a promise to the children that when I came back next year I would visit them again. 

I will be traveling to India in March 2015. I would like to provide at least three computers for the school which will allow the students to learn basic computer skills . In addition, I would like to provide each student with a new school uniform. I understand that given our circumstances, we as a first world nation take technology for granted. However, I know these children would be thrilled and eternally grateful if they were given access to a computer.
