conhecer um corpo é um livro que fala da intimidade dos corpos, do processo de autoconhecimento e de aprendizagem do eu a partir do outro. O processo fotográfico decorreu entre 2017 e 2019, mas só este ano evoluiu para um objecto com um sentido e uma intenção mais apurados. Nesse sentido, a construção deste livro partiu de um regresso ao meu arquivo para encontrar uma linha narrativa intencional que permeasse nas fotografias feitas durante esse tempo. De entre mais de duas mil fotografias, a escolha recaiu em cerca de cinquenta, que comunicam entre si uma ideia melancólica da procura da minha identidade através dos corpos e dos lugares que experimentei. Assim nasce conhecer um corpo.

Entre 2017 e 2019, tomei o hábito de pegar no meu carro e conduzir pelo país fora com uma certa frequência. Queria explorar Portugal, conhecer novas pessoas e novos sítios, queria escapar a minha própria solidão com o movimento, a estrada a passar por debaixo do meu carro. Levei a minha câmara fotográfica 35mm comigo e procurei paisagens que me atraíam, lugares que me chamavam a atenção, pessoas que me despertavam o interesse. E fotografei-os. Fotografei o mar, fotografei a terra, fotografei as cidades e as ruas, fotografei os rostos e os corpos, os corpos vestidos e despidos, parados e em movimento. Deixei-me vencer a minha dificuldade em falar com estranhos e deixaram de o ser. Abriram-se para a minha câmara, para o meu olhar, deixaram-se ser fotografados, explorados pela representação, tentados pelo desejo. E durante a procura do outro e de mais, gostava de dizer que me tinha encontrado a mim próprio; mas acho que isso não aconteceu. Foram precisos mais dois anos para perceber isso, foi preciso encontrar-me para perceber que isso ainda não tinha acontecido. Nesse sentido, olhei para trás, para as imagens que fiz nesses anos e seleccionei as que melhor comunicavam essa procura, a melancolia da exploração, do autoconhecimento, dos corpos dos outros em direcção ao meu corpo e à minha identidade. Uma colecção de imagens em que procuro nos corpos conhecer um corpo, o meu corpo.

Quem eu sou

Nasci em Ovar, em 1992, e sou um artista que trabalha no cruzamento entre o cinema, a fotografia, a música e as media arts. Sou licenciado em Cinema e Audiovisual pela Escola Superior Artística do Porto (2013) e frequento o Mestrado em Fotografia na Escola das Artes da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Vivo em Braga.

O meu trabalho cruza diferentes disciplinas artísticas, utilizando as potencialidades que cada uma oferece, de forma a enriquecer as ideias e os conceitos propostos. Sou autor de dois filmes curtos de ensaio-ficção premiados e de um filme experimental. Na música, lancei discos como Tundra Fault, um projecto de música electrónica que entretanto terminei, do qual também fui autor dos vídeos musicais; e crio música ao vivo para performances e espectáculos. Na fotografia, sou autor do projecto fotográfico A Body of Land, que esteve exposto em várias ocasiões.

Já fui convidado para fazer parte do júri de festivais e para leccionar formações e workshops. Colaboro com artistas de várias áreas, como Daniel Seabra, Maria Trabulo, Antonio da Silva, Dora Vieira, David Machado, Distorted Vision e Rui P. Andrade.

Livro

O livro é a estrela deste crowdfunding, claro. Tem dimensões 20x25cm, 92 páginas, com 47 fotografias. A edição standard do livro será de capa mole, com o miolo em papel semi-mate.

Edição Especial do Livro e Prints em Fine Art

Para além da edição standard, existirá uma edição especial limitada. Esta edição será em capa dura, do mesmo tamanho, e será numerada e assinada. Esta edição existirá apenas neste crowdfunding, não podendo ser adquirido depois dele terminar. O número de livros desta edição especial será o número da única tiragem que será feita, pelo que se adquirires esta versão, terás um exemplar único de uma edição muitíssimo limitada. to know a body is a book about the intimacy of bodies, the process of self-knowledge and the learning of the self from the other. The photographic process took place between 2017 and 2019, but only this year it evolved into an object with a more refined sense and intention. In that sense, the construction of this book started by going back to my archive to find an intentional narrative line that permeated the photographs taken during that time. Among more than two thousand photographs, the choice fell to about fifty, which communicate a melancholic idea of the search for my identity through the bodies and places I have experienced.

Between 2017 and 2019, I got in the habit of getting in my car and driving around the country quite often. I wanted to explore Portugal, meet new people and new places, I wanted to escape my own loneliness with movement, the road passing under my car. I took my 35mm camera with me and looked for landscapes that attracted me, places that caught my attention, people that captured my interest. And I photographed them. I photographed the sea, I photographed the land, I photographed the cities and the streets, I photographed the faces and the bodies, the bodies dressed and naked, standing and moving. I let myself overcome my difficulty in talking to strangers and they stopped being so. They opened up to my camera, to my gaze, they let themselves be photographed, explored by representation, tempted by desire. And while looking for the other and more, I would like to say that I had found myself; but I don't think that happened. It took two more years to realize that, I had to find myself to realize that it hadn't happened yet. In that sense, I looked back at the images I took in those years and selected the ones that best communicated that search, the melancholy of exploration, of self-knowledge, of the bodies of others towards my body and my identity. A collection of images in which I seek in bodies to know a body, my body.

Who I am

I was born in Ovar, in 1992, and I'm an artist who works at the intersection of cinema,
photography, music and media arts. I have a degree in Cinema and Audiovisual from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (2013) and I attend the Master in Photography at the School of Arts of the Catholic University of Portugal. I live in Braga.

My work crosses different artistic disciplines, using the potential that each offers, in order to enrich the ideas and concepts proposed. I am the author of two award-winning short essay-fiction films and an experimental film. In music, I released records as Tundra Fault, an electronic music project that I finished in the meantime, of which I was also the author of music videos; and I create live music for performances and shows. In photography, I am the author of the photographic project A Body of Land, which has been exhibited on several occasions.

I have been invited to be part of festival juries and to teach trainings and workshops. I collaborate with artists from various fields, such as Daniel Seabra, Maria Trabulo, Antonio da Silva, Dora Vieira, David Machado, Distorted Vision and Rui P. Andrade.

The prints are photographs printed on premium semi-matte photographic paper, sized 15x20cm, which includes a white border all around. All prints will be signed by me on the back. The available images are as follows, and when you choose the reward, you must specify the number of the images you want. In the updates of this crowdfunding you can see the photos in more detail.

Book

The book is the star of this crowdfunding, of course. It has 92 pages, with 47 photographs. The standard edition of the book will be in soft cover, with the inside on semi-matte paper.

Special Edition of the Book and Prints in Fine Art

In addition to the standard edition, there will be a special limited edition. This edition will be in hardcover, and will be numbered and signed. This edition will exist only in this crowdfunding, and cannot be purchased after it ends. The number of books in this special edition will be the number of the only print run that will be made, so if you purchase this version, you will have a copy of a very limited edition.
