Short Summary
20fold world record holder Wim Hof (the Iceman) has developed a method that enables humans to positively influence their auto immune system and fight a number of related diseases in 3 simple steps. Gradual exposure to the cold, breathing exercises and focus of the mind. Anyone can learn these skills in only a few days.
On the 24th of january 2014, a team of 25 healthy and ill people, guided by ’the Iceman’ Wim Hof, will set off for Tanzania to climb the Kilimanjaro (5890m), accompanied by a medical research team from the prestigious UMC Radbout university Nijmegen. Amongst the climbers are people with Cancer, Rheumatism, Asthma, Crohn’s disease, and Multiple Sclerosis. They will climb the Kilimanjaro shirtless, wearing only shorts and shoes in only 3 days (usually takes 6).
Why? To show that it is possible for humans to transcend themselves, their diseases and to directly influence their autonomous nervous system and hence the auto immune system. The challenge is threefoold. First there is the extreme cold at the top (up to minus 20 degrees celcius / xx degrees fahrenheit). Then there is the physical challenge of ascending 4500 meters on a 35km route in just 3 days. But the biggest challenge is the danger of altitude disease. It is not unusual for an ascend in altitude this fast that less than 40% of the attendees reach the summit. Above 4000 m there is only 60 % of oxygen in the air. By applying the special breathing techniques and extreme focus, the teammembers will influence their auto immunesystem and rapidly increase the count of red bloodcells in their blood, which is required to cope with the shortage of oxigen which causes altitude disease (which can be deadly).
By exposing his body to extreme circumstances in nature for over 35 years, Wim Hof discovered a method which any human being can learn in just a few days. It allows for control over his or her autonomic nervous system (something science claims to be impossible). In turn, this control allows people to activate the self-healing capacities of the body and thereby positively help the body fight against diseases. We need further scientific research to gather official proof for the excelent results we are already seeing amongst the teammembers for this expedition.
Absolute astonishment about the capacity of our body. Is that simple for us to affect our immune system? Step by step our skeptical view changed into amazement. How far can one reach with the Wim Hof Method (WHM)? Imagine how ill people could influence their health and how healthy people could become so much fitter, stronger and more energetic. The medical researchers have been chained to these questions since they connected to the Wim Hof Method and their current main purpose has become to collect hard scientific evidence to change the worldwide belief about true human potential with the right mind/body connection. It is therefore that medical professors all over the world are interested in the results Wim Hof has achieved. Wim holds over 20 world records, mostly related to challenging and surviving the extreme cold.
What We Need & What Do You Get
We will apply the funds from this campaign to cover the expenses for the scientific medical staff and equipment that is required to scientifically record all medical data of teammembers. Any additional funds would be used to cover for additional expenses made by the team as a whole.
The Impact
In order to convince medical staff and common laymen around the world of the amazing and powefull results of the simple but effective Wim Hof method, we need more scientific evidence. The Kilimanjaro climb is one of the events we are organising to gather this evidence. During the Kilimanjaro trip we will use the extreme circumstances as our reference; the goal is to show how the method could also be added to combat against auto-imune diseases.
