Who we are
We are Kelsey and Ryan Maccombs (and the amazingly supportive friends and family of Kelsey and Ryan). Kelsey is a writer who drinks tea. Ryan is a math instructor who drinks coffee. We both love cats and have been fostering for different rescue organizations since we got married in 2013.
What a cat cafe is (and isn't)
Cat cafes are as fun and silly as they sound — cafes full of cats. Ours will have fancy schmancy coffee (or regular black coffee, if that’s your thing), yummy treats, and adoptable rescue kitties. You can spend time with the cats and even adopt a new buddy if you fall in love! We’ll also host cat yoga, trivia, craft sessions, and board game nights.
Just a heads up: we’ll already have cats living on site. Please don’t bring yours with you!
Where the money goes
If funded to $5,000, this IndieGoGo campaign will pay for:
- Cat playground
- Bedding
- Scratching posts
- Cat trees
- Litter boxes
- Dishes
If funded up to $10,000, the campaign will cover all the above, plus:
- Combination refrigerators/freezers
- Coffee smallwares (espresso tampers, frothing pitchers, measuring cups and spoons, scales, et cetera)
If we reach $15,000, in additional to the above items, the money will cover:
- Food service equipment (industrial microwave, toaster, et cetera)
- Espresso grinder
- Coffee maker
- Frappe and smoothie blenders
- Ice machine
$20,000 would get us all of the above, plus:
- Underbar sink
- 3 compartment sink for back of house
- Crockery
- Disposable coffee shop supplies (to go cups, lids, napkins)
- Office equipment (computer, printer, scanner, phone, desk)
If we IndieGoGo our way to $25,000, we’d have everything above covered in addition to:
- Business License
- Insurance
- Menus
- Point of Sale System
Why we're doing this
Cat cafes are super fun! But at the end of the day, our number one priority is to place happy, healthy cats in forever homes.
We're running as a nonprofit so all the money we make goes right back into rescue work. We also really want to run an ethical, sustainable organization and be really open with customers about where their money is going. Finally, we want to develop both our employees' and volunteers' confidence and skills and empower them to achieve their goals. Maybe in a few years one of the baristas or volunteers will be so awesome that we'll be forced to give them Kelsey's job and go start a new project.
