We've had such a fun time hosting a room party the last couple years, that we're back.
With this being the 20th anniversary of CONvergence, it had us strolling down the vestiges of our memories to 1999. There was a lot of craziness going on.
Would our computers be able to handle the tick over to the year 2000?
Would our preparation bunkers hold off the apocalypse?
Did we have enough water?
Was Prince wanting to party like the future, or what?
We are the Earworm collective (Garrick/Liz/Maggie/Trish/Wade) and we've been attendees at CONvergence for the past 10 years (or so). We've hosted a party room the past 2 years, and this will be magical #3 (it is the magic number afterall). The more money we can raise, the more amenities the room can offer. There's party room rental, decorating, drinks, and more.
Luckily, in the future, nothing goes to waste, and due to our own lucrative investments in The Stuff company, drone technology, and appropriate handling of the wonderful tips from last year, we only need to raise about 1/3 of the cost to host a room.
Rough budget breakdown (will be tweaked as we go)
Cabana Room rental - $800
A brand new bar - $300
Decorations - $400
Drinks & cups - $900
Spiffs for donors - $100
Flyers and Posters - $200
Indiegogo fees - $200
Total: $2,900
Last year we contracted with a local artist to come up with a logo for our room, He did an amazing job on the Earworm logo, and Singing Sandworm. This year he's graciously agreed to design a poster.
Also, what says 90's like pinback buttons? That's right, some of our donation levels include these wonderful buttons that you can attach to your lanyards. We're so excited to have a button making party!
Also, because it's an Earworm for many people, there might be a pop-up "Hamilton" sing-along during one of the convention days (Don't judge us too harshly on the timing. We know it's not from the new century but... timey wimey).
