Short Summary

Hi, I'm Liz Frank and I own Nob Hill Fabrics in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  A small, independent fabric store, we sell specialty and hard-to-find fabrics unavailable elsewhere in town.  We also offer sewing classes to teach the skills that bring designer dreams to life.

Inside the store.

Our challenge at the moment is to teach pants making.  A properly fitted pair of pants sits comfortably at the waist and falls smoothly over the hips and thighs while standing, sitting and walking.` A pair of pants meeting all these requirements is worth its weight in gold and is as hard to find as that lost dryer sock.

Luckily, sewing is not the lost art it has been portrayed in the media.  Many of us still retain the skills we learned in junior high and are happy and willing to pass them on to the younger generation, with the exception of pants making.  Too few of today's home sewers have mastered the art of fitting and constructing the perfect pair of trousers, but help is available.  Seamstress Linda Lee has not only tamed the monster that is the construction and fitting of a fine pair of slacks, but is a well-known and respected teacher of said skill.

We would like to bring this sewing and teaching goddess from the far reaches of Kansas City to the wild west of Albuquerque for a two-day pants fitting and construction workshop.  While her costs are reasonable, they are also prohibitive for many potential students and we would like to subsidize the event to lower their cost.

This is where you come in.  Your donation will go to Linda's teaching fee and travel costs bringing it down from $250 to $150 per student.  In addition, you will also contribute to the first and foremost pants ingredients -- fine fabrics.  Our shelves will burst at the seams with linens, wools, gabardines, rayon crepes and yes, fine silk suitings to supply the class as well as future production.

Sewing is a basic life skill and should not be lost to future generations.  We have taught beginners to thread and use a sewing machine and intermediate sewers have taken their skills to new levels with fitting and other technique classes.  Our bra-making, tailored jacket and pattern adjusting classes are especially popular as they fill a void in Albuquerque.
