Overview

A few months back I lost my bag at the airport. Being in a foreign country and losing your baggage is one of the worst things to happen to you. During that time, I kept checking my phone unconsciously as though I could find my bag through the phone, I realized that using a GPS tracker along with a SIM card could make that possible. PS: Thankfully I found my bag at the baggage claim, however this was a good learning experience. Something good came out of it.

Hello Sir/Madam

My name is Niket Naidu and I am an Electronics and Communications Graduate
I firmly believe that this inexpensive module will help people keep track of their baggage and/or any other item that might need to be tracked.
Since I am a college student and have yet to get a proper job, raising the necessary funds on my own is extremely tough. I would appreciate any and all help that you can offer.

For the Project...

I will need a maximum of 200 USD to build a proper prototype/model. Manufacturing or mass producing the product will be more expensive but as of now building the device is the main priority
All that this GPS tracker would need is a SIM card. Using this you can track your baggage anywhere in the world.
Even if I do fail to complete this project I will not stop working to make this a reality.

The Impact

I do feel that security over our belongings is of the utmost priority.
I have built small RFID trackers for my college projects. However this project does require research to make sure that it can be marketable and used by everyone with ease.
This product would be a boon for anyone who is forgetful and/or paranoid about losing his/her things

Risks & Challenges

The challenges that I would face would be to get the location of the device in a realtime and/or adding extra capabilities like real-time satellite location uplink which would be sent to you on a custom made app.
I plan to tackle these hurdles step by step. Making a rudimentary prototype and getting a location data would be the first of many steps.
