At twelve years old, Caitlin’s got life figured out: she will follow in the footsteps of her widowed father as an erudite architect. When her Irish grandma suddenly moves in with them, Caitlin learns that the mother she never knew grew up in a foreign culture. While her father wants nothing more than to ignore the painful loss of his wife, her grandma sees this opportunity as a chance to revive her daughter’s legacy through Caitlin. Caitlin’s mother was a skilled and passionate dancer, so it must be in her DNA. As Caitlin navigates this white-dominated community of dance, she leans on the legacy of her mother to understand that the world is more than just black and white.
This summer, our team will be shooting CURLS in Charlotte, NC. Being able to create something that can help others feel good about the world, and motivate them to find their own ambition is one of the joys of filmmaking for this team and is the heart of our movie. We want to be able to highlight a community that is evolving from its strict traditional boundaries. In order to do that, we must raise money beyond the pockets of our key crew members.
Our goal for this campaign is to raise $10,000. This amount will cover the camera and lighting rentals, as well as production design purchases, hair and makeup costs, location expenses, and catering so we can feed our hardworking crew who are all working for deferred payments. If we do not raise the full $10,000, we will still funnel any amount we are able to raise into our production costs.
As a predominately female crew making our first feature film, we would love your support in helping us tell this story which is so important to us.
