Cutting for Camp Big Heart!
It all started 12 years ago. A clean shaven freshman in high school gets invited to go on a vacation, all expenses paid for, by one of his friends. Little does he know that it's not a vacation at all but rather a life changing week of experiences.
Camp Big Heart is a camp that occurs down in Perry, Georgia for 2 weeks every summer offering a place for mild to moderately disabled kids and adults a get away. A place where they get to grow, make friends, have new experiences, and for once, not be the "different" one.
Camp Big Heart (CBH) has taught me endless amounts of lessons. It has been a situation that has changed not only my outlook on life but also my entire philosophy of it. CBH teaches you that no matter how bad you have it there's always a silver lining. You make life long friends and have stories to share for decades to come. It also teaches you that even though you know chicken fingers aren't made from actual fingers of chickens, that sometimes you can't win every argument.
Now for the reason you're reading this today. Why are you shaving? For those of you know might not know me or haven't known me as long, I have ALWAYS had facial hair. Since the terrible decision in high school to rock a chin strap to having a fu-man chu mustache to mutton chops- I've tried it all. But this has been my biggest feat. I've been growing my beard for over 2 years. 2 YEARS! That's a lot of lazy months, a lot of "why don't you just shave that animal off your face" conversations, to yes campers ripping a part of it out because they didn't believe it was really attached to my face. They say if you really care about something you should sacrifice for it, and here I am. Sacrificing my beard for camp... that is only if you make the price right!
Camp costs $425 for each camper each week, but to put on the camp it costs CBH around $700/camper. By raising $1500 we'll be able to completely cover the cost for 2 campers or be able to give 3-4 scholarships for campers who might not be able to afford to attend.
