The idea behind our shoes is to keep the environmental footprint as small as possible. However, we don't compromise on comfort, style nor durability.

Our first model comes in two different colors - black and white or all black. If the campaign is off to a good start we will let you choose a third color as a stretch goal. D'BRIS fits for all genders and is available in sizes 36-46 EU (5.5-12 US).

OUR SHOES ARE TRASH 

Whether the materials are made from oil, organic plants, or the skin from an animal, everything has a negative impact on the environment. The less raw material the better. That is why we use repurposed or recycled materials.   

The majority of the outer soles are made from car tires, which is complemented with a mix of natural rubber and recycled rubber scraps. The upper canvas is made from high-quality polyester yarn made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic. Between 5-10% of this is captured directly from the oceans and beaches by local fishermen and NGOs. On the inside, we have added cotton to increase the comfort of the shoe. The cotton is 50% recycled and the other 50% is certified organic cotton. Same thing with the laces. The insoles are made from PU, EVA, and cork, all recycled scraps from the factory. D’BRIS shoes help preserve natural resources and keep the oceans cleaner.

HANDMADE IN SPAIN. NOT CHINA.  

We have partnered up with a manufacturer in Spain that has made shoes for more than half a century. The factory is at the forefront when it comes to sustainability using solar power and recycling leftover materials. Most materials are also sourced close by in Spain. For us, it was vital that all our partners/suppliers in our supply chain shared the same principles as ourselves when it comes to working conditions, fair wages, and time off to enjoy life outside of work.

The shoes will be available in EU sizes 36-46.

Sending products back and forth has an impact on the environment so we appreciate it if you order the right size from the start plus we want the shoes to fit you right. 

Measure your feet to determine your size: 

1. Place a paper on the floor with one side touching a wall.
2. Place one of your feet on top of the paper with the heel touching the wall. 
3. Use a pen to mark your longest toe in the paper.
4. Measure from the edge of the paper (where your heel was) to the marking.
5. Look in the following table which size to order. 

Don't buy our shoes if you already have shoes that serve their purpose. You can still support us by sharing our project, or donating some money, and let us pick up some trash in return. If you buy our shoes we don't want them to collect dust in a wardrobe. We want them to be used, and for a long time until they are totally worn out. Then and only then we can make a difference. #rethinkconsumption

Magnus and Joe, Co-founders

Magnus is a Swedish environmentalist and has 5+ years of working in start-ups. He is highly skilled in launching products and bringing them to the market. He holds an MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management with a focus on entrepreneurship and marketing. 

Joe is a Californian ocean lover who has 4+ years of working with startups.  He is highly skilled in sales, building teams, and making connections. He holds a double BA in Marketing and Political Science.

WHY SHOES

D’BRIS comes from the word debris. Debris means scattered pieces of trash or remains. That is what D’BRIS shoes are made from. Our shoes are trash.  It all began at a skatepark while complaining over a broken shoe and the lack of sustainable options. Shoes get worn out quickly and as surfers, we have experienced first-hand pollution in the oceans.

 It took more than a year to get here and a half-year goose chase through France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain to find transparent suppliers to make this project come to life. This was no easy task. Getting laughed at by the major fashion suppliers for textile companies at a tradeshow is really what fueled our vision and curiosity. We asked 100’s of industry leaders why there aren't more sustainable options on the market?  No one had a clear answer.

To date, we have managed to make a competitively priced handcrafted shoe made from ocean plastic and car tires. We aim to inspire other companies and industries to take similar courses in actions when it comes to sustainability in order to ensure a brighter future for our planet.

Risks and challenges

We have been through a crazy but exciting journey with a lot of learnings getting to the point where we are at today. We have met a lot of people and made sure to surround ourselves with experts who have produced shoes for a long time. For this reason, we are confident that the production will run smoothly. Having worked with similar logistic projects before, we know there will always be some problems, but we have partnered up with some great partners also here and we are ready to tackle any problem coming our way to make sure every backer gets their D’BRIS shoes delivered on time and with expected quality.
