Who we are
We are team members of D-Bug #3316 which is the FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team of the "D Municipal High School, Tel Aviv".
Ten days ago, 53 teams from all over Israel competed in the regional championship at Nokia Stadium in Tel Aviv. In each round, three robots played against three others in a game akin to basketball - Aerial Assist. D-Bug emerged as the top team in the preliminary rounds, giving it the right to choose the other two teams with which it would form an "alliance" to compete in the finals. It chose Miscar #1574 from Misgav Regional High School and Jatt #3065 from Jatt High School. The alliance was successful, and won the championship, and by that given the right to participate in the world championship in St. Louis, USA.
The team started its way in FRC 5 years ago, and consists of 20 students, boys and girls, aged 15 to 18. Their participation forged a tremendous team spirit, stimulated their curiosity, extended their knowledge of electronics, mechanics, programming, and all the other disciplines concerned, and tested their commitment. It also involved them in community activity in running robotics activities in other schools in the Tel Aviv area and beyond it. Their triumph in the competition aroused huge interest throughout the school, and greatly boosted awareness of the importance of science and technology in education.
The team and their mentors now face the challenge of the world championship. This is the first time that a team from Tel Aviv has reached this stage.
We are approaching you because the cost of participation in the world championships falls on the students and their families. This includes a registration fee, transporting the robot, and travel and accommodation for the team. For many of the students, the cost is beyond them.
What is FRC
FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) is an international high school robotics competition organized by the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) organization. Each year, teams of high school students compete to build robots that can complete a task, which changes every year. The teams are given 6.5 weeks in order to build the robot, and in the rest of the year they both prepare to the competition and perform community outreach. The year is either totaled in the regional competition - which in our case takes place in Nokia Stadium and includes 52 teams - which is the peek of the season for both the teams and the watching visitors from the community, or continues to the world championship for 6 teams, 3 of which are a part of the winning alliance in the finals stage, and 3 of which who received miscellaneous award.
