The Official Teaser for D.C. al Coda is OUT NOW!
The Story of D.C. al Coda
![]()
D.C. al Coda is a cautionary tale about the events leading up to a school shooting, all focusing around the shooter himself. Our hope is that by attempting to step into the twisted minds of the perpetrators, we may begin to find ways to prevent mass shootings.

Throughout the story, we follow Coda, a malleable and invisible teenager in high school. From an abusive household to ostracization from his peers, we delve into his mind and attempt to understand what leads him to mass murder. Who is he? Why did he do this? And what can we do to prevent this?
Why Are We Doing This?
Mass shootings have plagued the U.S. for decades. The massacre happens, it’s covered by the media for a couple weeks, we blame video games, violence in films, mental illness, and tiptoe around the issue until the world forgets, but the victims remain stuck reliving the horrors. It’s a vicious cycle with no end in sight. Maybe, what we need is to approach the problem from a different angle.

“I’m from El Paso, TX. In August of last year (2019) a man entered a Walmart there and opened fire. There had been many other mass shootings before this, but this one was really close to home for me. It made me realize how terrifying these things are and how little is being done about them. It made me wish I had realized this earlier. Since then, it’s been on my mind every day; paranoia, fear, and anxiety. So I decided I should do something about it, and I’m doing it the only way I know how… through my film.”

Addressing Concerns
As with any controversial and/or sensitive topic, there are many risks to exploring mass shootings and gun violence. From the very start, I knew that this story was one that had to be handled with sensitivity and care.
Setting it from the shooter’s point of view was something that we struggled with for a while. I was very nervous about what the film might be perceived as and how people might react to it.
Ultimately, however, I came to believe that this was the only way to tell this story. The idea , I hope, is one that will at the very least spark a conversation, and in the best case, allow us to see these tragedies from a different perspective that could potentially lead to us finding ways to prevent them.
So in the process of writing and developing this, we have (and will continue to) reached out to professionals and victims to make sure we tell this story as sensitively as possible. With every decision we make for this project, we first stop and think, “what are we saying with this?”
