Regina Klenjoski Dance Company has an excellent 14-year track record with its successful dance education program, "Dancing with RKDC," in the city of Torrance, CA. RKDC has reached over 13,000 students since 1999, providing high-quality dance instruction at an affordable price to the South Bay, and is now ready to expand the program to a new community and bring it to the company's home town, Long Beach, CA.
THE NEED
In Long Beach, there is a documented need for dance and arts programs to serve underserved, underrepresented students in the region. RKDC is based in Long Beach and has held a long desire to expand its programs to its hometown. As the fifth largest city in California with 23% of its population at or below poverty level, most public schools and young people in the city are without arts programs.
THE MOMENT
We believe we are at the right moment at the right time to effectuate the change we have longed to bring to our home community for many years. We have proven that with start up funding we can develop a self sustaining arts education model that will thrive and grow in the community for years to come. As a 14-year veteran of programs in Torrance, Regina Klenjoski is uniquely positioned to be successful in this endeavor - she has the knowledge, maturity and community relationships that ensure success for the residents and children of Long Beach.
THE FUNDS
Regina Klenjoski Dance Company is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit company and all funds generated by this project will be used to hire, retain and pay high-caliber teaching artists for classes and in-school workshops and start up marketing costs that include a new "LB Dancing with RKDC" website.
It will cost $5,420 to launch the program (Jan-March), but we've already secured $2,420. We need your help to raise the rest ($3,000) to bring this much needed access to arts education to downtown Long Beach.
Cost breakdown:
Free outreach programs to local schools: $500
Website, Marketing and technology set up: $920
Direct staffing and administrative costs: $2,100Studio Cost: $1,600
Total: $5,420 (including $300 in Indiegogo administrative fees)
Amount raised to date: $2,420
Risks and challenges
With 14 years of experience in the South Bay, RKDC is prepared and equipped for launching a self-sustaining education program in Long Beach. To do this, RKDC must continue to bring the community together with the support of local partners and stakeholders to raise awareness of our program offerings.
RKDC has faculty lined up to begin instruction once the program opens, and an inherent challenge launching this program is being able to afford and maintain highly qualified teaching instructors. We believe through growth of the program and student body, maintaining the quality faculty will be supported in the way it has been accomplished in Torrance.
