Dare
My name is Cindy Osegueda and I was born in Los Angeles. My parents are from El Salvador and growing up within this culture made me appreciate beauty, love and family unity. I know my strength, the ability to stand up for what I believe in was rooted in me by my family. I decided to make a story that shows my appreciation for my culture. While growing up, I watched many horror and drama based movies. Combining these elements, I wish to achieve a powerful, and genuine tale that not only makes me proud , but raises awareness on a subject that I believe needs to be stopped.
What We Need & What You Get
- The money that I raise for this project will allow me to graduate. It will also allow me to tell more stories about this type of cases. I want to be able to use this money to get locations, and to get anything to make my story stand out such as lighting equipment, camera equipment, and expendables to make my story feel genuine.
- If I don't reach my entire goal I will probably focus my attention on props, and set dressings, as well as costumes.
The Impact
Feel free to explain more about your campaign and let people know the difference their contribution will make:
- This project is valuable to the contributor and to the world because it's a story about children who have to deal with violence and sexual harassment. It's about the horrors and pain that children suppress because they don't know what to do in these situations. I think it is very important that these situations are known so that we can have precautions and hopefully stop them in their tracks,
- I have never done a project like this, but I think it's about time I did. I have made many friends in my life and one way or another the topic of their virginity would make it into the conversation and it shocked me to know that many of them have been abused, or harassed especially by someone they knew, at a very young age. I have always asked if they ever reported these cases and many told me that they didn't. They felt like somehow they would be to blame. It has always broken my heart that my friends went through this and that they blamed themselves. It made me angry that these abusers were out there probably taking advantage of others. I feel that the more we know and educate our children, then the less chances that this will happen.
Risks & Challenges
My biggest obstacle is my fear. I fear that I might not give this story the justice it deserves. I want to be able to honor the brave people who stood up for themselves without making the victims feel bad. I want to tell their stories without judgement.
- I know I can overcome my fear because my anger over this matter gives me strength. I want to be able to stand up and make the world a safer place.
- I have the memories of my friends faces, and I could feel their pain and I will keep running the memory of their pain over and over.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help:
- Ask folks to get the word out and make some noise about your campaign. If money can't be attributed, than I would love to use people's creativeness, such as being a crew member, donating 90's props, and set dressing. I would also appreciate if you could share the campaign to your family and friends, help spread the word. Most importantly that if you or someone that you know has gone through this, report them, make sure they don't walk free.
