My name is Nitasha Schneider. I was born in Cheyenne, WY and raised in Grand Junction, CO. I will be 22 a week before my deadline. I currently work as a server and do odd jobs on the side to support myself. I have been traveling for roughly the last two years outside of my home town, joining the following of love and light to search for the deeper meaning of my existence. What I have found thus far, is a true appreciation for nature. Last summer, whilst hiking along the Appalachian Trail I set my intentions on becoming aware of the small things. Listening and watching to quiet my mind. Once I found my first four leaf clover hiding beneath a root in the middle of the trail, I knew I was on the right track. I started collecting these small thoughtful moments in my notebook, which was later turned into the landscape collage featured with butterfly wing mountains and robin's egg clouds (made in a grocery store parking lot, while living out of my backpack).
My idea is to create the perfect thoughtful gift. Making daily intentions to search for the little things, perfectly preserving them and setting them in recycled wood. Each piece will take anywhere from 3-5 hours depending on the size. I am also encouraging people to send me requests for personalized pieces and small forest floor finds of their own to help inspire exploration and adventure. I have been collecting and pressing forest floor finds lately in Northern Michigan to create a prototype which I will post a video of soon. I will be moving to Oregon two weeks before my deadline ends, which gives me plenty of opportunity for more forest floor finds on the way.
I probably won't need as much as my total goal to acquire the small amount of tools it takes to create these nature gifts. All I need is a dremel for shaping wood, resin, and recycled lumber. The collage pieces are gifts from the forest floor. Your donations will be used purely for this project, any extra money will be invested in bulk supply and creating a space. I will open an www.etsy.com store and later a personal website where anyone can contact me at anytime and personally order my hand made organic art.
Love my idea? Share it! You don't have to contribute money to help out.
