Deadly Kawaii is about magical girls. Mostly Nimh.
Nimh is a magical girl with a love of justice and a hate for monsters.
Followed by her welsh corgi, Pops the Cacophonous, Nimh runs around the city fighting creepy ghouls and monsters in the name of truth, justice, and coffee.
All in all, Deadly Kawaii is a side-scrolling PC/Mac game with a progressive story and colorful aesthetics.
And lot's of awesome features! Such as:
★ At least 12 shiny levels!
★ 6 different transformations, each with their own different outfits!
★ Evil and sassy magical girl bosses to fight!
★ A welsh corgi as your companion!
★ Blood, violence, and cuteness!
Deadly Kawaii will be for PC and Mac, developed with Stencyl. I chose Stencyl specifically because the tools are quick and easy to use, while being flexible enough to make the game exactly as envisioned.
Currently, the prototype includes a mini playable level with the Goddess Transformation feature and I'm working on cleaning up the graphics so a free playable one-level demo can be released to you guys to play to your heart's content!
As soon as this project is funded, I'll be setting up a development blog with updates made as often as possible, so you guys can see all the progress going on and maybe get your hands on some extra graphic-y goods along the way!
I'm Chris! I'm a 24 year old student currently going to Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, land roses of and a bunch of seagulls.
I've been drawing since pretty much ever. It's just about all I do. I also have an intense love of game development and I've taken part in making art assets for games since back in 2009 for Labyrinthica: The Quest of Lima, found/sold here. One of my more recent team projects was called Jimbo in Limbo, finished, presented in front of a lot of people, and featured here. Last year I also did the cover art for a printed European game development magazine called Eye For Games.
On my own, I like to make silly dress up games such as this, as well as (PC/Mac) dating sims, such as this.

So! What is this money needed for? Well:
★ Living Costs: Developing a game is super time-consuming! I plan on pursuing the game as a part-time job during the school semester, and a full-time job while out of school.
★ Licensing: Stencyl requires developers to purchase a license in order to publish a Mac/PC game ($150 for a student license).
★ Music and Sound: I'd like to commission some composers for music/sound so Deadly Kawaii can have as cool a soundtrack as possible.
★ And of course, the higher tiers add in the cost of making the physical goods included with them + shipping!
There will be stretch goals, of course! As the project gets funded, more will be added.
★ $6,000: More cute and deadly content, like: new transformations, new levels, new enemies, and new bosses!
As for some upcoming stretch goal rewards, I'd like to try making some of these things possible:
★ Boss battles for more/all the levels
★ A printed and/or digital Deadly Kawaii comic
★ Even more transformation outfits
★ An extra (shorter!) game following the background of one of the evil magical girls
I am REALLY excited about working on this game.
Throughout the Kickstarter and development of the game, I'll be posting updates that include sprites, concept art, and other things for your eyes to behold.
So stayed tuned, and thanks so, so much for your support!
