DEADSKINS! 3-4 is a 60-page, perfect bound comic book collecting the third and fourth issues of the series critics call:

DEADSKINS! was the first graphic novel we ever created, and it was serialized on our website from 2013-2014. The full story clocks in at 5 issues, roughly 30 pages each.

We're remastering this book 2 issues at a time, darkening the lines to improve print quality and bring out the beauty of our black, white, and red production. And if you missed our last campaign for issues 1-2, we've made it super-easy to catch up.

Here's the pitch:

"A Harvard-educated dandy and his blind, drunk companion are all that stand between the Old West and an Undead Apocalypse. This is the true story of Custer's Last Stand... whatever they taught you in school is bullsh!t."

TART'S Kevin Joseph on DEADSKINS!

THE GALL-DANG PREVIEW

Last time out, we met Shane, a Harvard dandy on his way back home to propose to his girlfriend. He falls asleep on the train, and when he wakes up, everyone else on board is dead:

When he gets to town, same story. Everyone's dead (or gone), except the town drunk and his, uh, "wife":

Together, they have to solve the mystery of what happened and why they were spared... and save the girl, of course:

But when word gets out that there's something special about our unlikely heroes, they're quickly drafted into a war they don't understand... and it's not entirely clear who the real bad guys are...

In this volume, you'll meet General Custer:

No relation to Yosemite Sam.

Custer sends Shane and Jack on a "special" mission alongside the brutes Thomas and Boston... and a kid aptly named "The Kid":

Dynamite vests. (Don't try this at home.)

Along the way, they meet some butt-kicking cowgirls...

Cowgirls. Kickin' ass and taking names since 1876.

...and, of course, zombies:

Busted. And on National Talk Like a Pirate Day for zombies, too...

Plus: Shane finally reunites with his beloved Annie! But, uh, she's full of surprises:

Reunited and it feels... so bad?

So settle in for some weird western action!

If you're still not sold and want to read the first issue for free...

NOTE ABOUT THE SLANG

DEADSKINS! takes place in the Wild West, and as such, some characters--particularly the villains--express attitudes that seem outdated today. We think our readers are smart enough to know that we aren't condoning these things, but we also know that in 2020, some people don't want to read about it. So: fair warning.

There's also donkey-f*cking.

FRIED Comics is a proud purveyor of offbeat, irreverent pulp fiction since 2013, and a labor of love for Clay Adams and Alexandre O. Philippe.

So far, we have eight successful Kickstarters under our belts. (And between us we have a lot of belts. ) So, we're stoked to return to the scene of the crime.

Clay is the co-writer of RED XMAS, which was released in comic shops this December by Scout Comics, and served as co-editor for the NIGHTMARE THEATER anthology on Kickstarter. His feature script, THE ECLIPSE, placed second in the horror category of the FADEIn Awards, and his latest comic, ELECTRIC YOUTH, co-written with Kyle Roberts, was recently featured in the LA Times. He has written and directed for television and holds a BFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU. When Clay first met Alexandre, he thought, "My, what a sophisticated European." Boy, was he wrong!

Film nerd/director Alexandre is the co-writer of RED XMAS from Scout Comics. His most recent documentary is LEAP OF FAITH: WILLIAM FRIEDKIN ON THE EXORCIST, now streaming on Shudder. He holds a Masters Degree in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has written and directed numerous award-winning films and documentaries, including MEMORY: THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN, 78/52: HITCHCOCK'S SHOWER SCENE, AND THE PEOPLE vs. GEORGE LUCAS. When Alexandre first met Clay, he thought, "My, what a stupid American." Boy, was he right!

Leila is a comic book artist and writer living in Portland, Oregon. She draws SLEEPLESS, SHUTTER and writes AFAR at Image Comics. Leila has drawn for titles such as THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, SCARLET WITCH, AMERICAN VAMPIRE, and THE PANTHEON PROJECT. In 2015 and 2016, Leila was nominated for the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award for her work on SHUTTER. She only took this job because she thought she'd be paid in fries.

Brett Nienburg is a Denver-based artist who has worked as a concept artist for LEGO and  designed sets for feature films. We're sorry we made him peel so many potatoes. He looks pretty sad about it.

Charles is from Canada, so we imagine he looks like one of those flappy-headed dudes from South Park.* He has lettered books for Aftershock, Image, IDW and Top Shelf (among others) and is a founding member of Frozen Beach Studios. (*As far as we know, Charles has a normal-looking head.)

Ugh. Just... ugh.

The Package

We've gotten our fair share of comics that arrived mangled by the mail carrier.

You pay premium prices on Kickstarter, and you deserve better. That's why we've started using Gemini Comic Mailers:

These babies are sturdy. They require a little more money, a little more time (and a lot more tape!) but it's worth it to make sure your comics arrive in pristine condition.

And if somehow your comic still gets roughed up?

Frieda will replace it free of charge.

All funds from this campaign will go to:

  • Printing rewards
  • Shipping them to you
  • Anything above our goal goes towards making more comics

THANKS, HON!

We're not asking for a million dollars. We just want to put a cool book in your hand and entertain you for a bit during these crazy times. So find a pledge level you like and pre-order. We'll make more comics.

Oh! And finally:

We heard somewhere that crowdfunding campaigns do better when they have pictures of cats on the page. So, here's a picture of Clay's cat:

Thanks for supporting! And remember...

Risks and challenges

The book is 100% finished. We've worked with our printer on multiple campaigns and we know they will deliver a quality product on time. Right now, the biggest risk is that the postal service will continue to see delays. We sincerely hope this won't be a problem... but if it is, we'll get your books to you via an alternate service.
