DEARLY NOT SO DEPARTED is our love letter to our Nanas, Grandmas, Omis, Memeres, Grammys; a laugh-out-loud short comedy film with a universal, heart-warming message.

An incredibly talented team is being brought together to collaborate on DNSD and we look forward to sharing their details as contracts are signed…

We are super proud to share that we have received partial funding from the Ontario Arts Council to produce our short – but it doesn’t quite cover the entire budget.  This is where YOU come in.  We aren’t just asking you to give us your money; pledgers will receive a fantastic range of exclusive products, perks and experiences – great value for your hard earned dollars!

The Low Down

So here’s the skinny on the dollars and cents:

• We need to raise another $3500 in order to fund the “extras” for shooting, as well as our post-production budget – things like make-up, props, wardrobe, editing costs, and marketing. 
• We have stretch goals planned as well – reaching these will allow us to bring Nana’s story to film festivals across Canada and beyond!
• Don’t forget, we aren’t just asking for money for nothing here!  We are very excited about our perks – everything from digital downloads, invitation-only gala screening tickets, even WALK-ON roles and , take a peek on the side --->
• WHEN we reach our $3500 goal, EVERY PLEDGER WHO CONTRIBUTED $50 OR MORE WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO INCLUDE A PHOTO OF YOUR NANA OVER THE CLOSING CREDITS!  How awesome is that?

What’s the Point?

We wrote this film as an ode to our Nanas.  Doesn’t everybody’s Nana deserve to feel good after watching a funny story with their grandchild?  A few of our Nanas (Cynthia had 3!) aren’t around anymore, but we are so excited to honour their love as we grew up in this special way.

Sarah and Cynthia are also working with an amazing well-known Canadian directory/filmmaker as a mentor – the fantabulous Shirley Cheechoo.  In addition to her work running the Weengushk Film Institute, Shirley has made a number of films that have resonated across the country and has received many awards throughout her career.  Under her tutelage, we look forward to producing a good quality, entertaining film for our audience (you!) to enjoy.  (Not like the fuzzy old home movies we edited to created our pitch video ;P)

What Could Go Wrong?

As we mentioned earlier, we are pulling together an experienced and talented team to bring Nana’s story to life.  We are confident that the end product will be an attractively shot film that will make you laugh while we tug at your heartstrings. 

That said, our biggest risk is not reaching our fundraising goal.  (But we aren’t going to let that happen, are we?)  We are working on alternative/contingency funds, but all along the process, this project has been about collaborating with amazing people – so we would really love for you have a chance to be a part of our collaboration as well!

Either way, our actors and crew will be paid and a film will be produced, but additional funds will ensure that the final product can be put in front of the largest audience possible.
