Our Story
Death-Rebirth-Freedom Revelry is a multidisciplinary ARTS FESTIVAL aimed to promote Art as a vehicle to transcend and transform ourselves and the world around us. The Revelry will provide a unique artistic experience that blurs the line between audience and artist by creating an interactive space for free expression, deep reflection and conscious action. Inspired by the natural cycle of death-rebirth-freedom, each artist interprets the theme shaped by their beliefs and unique life experiences.
Presented by The Six Betweens Art Collective, the Revelry will feature Brooklyn’s rich artistic talent as well as a bevy of artists from the greater New York City area and abroad. This month-long festival will host 20+ events including spoken word, visual arts, mixed media, performing arts and workshops, and it will be held at several venues within and around the Park Slope, Brooklyn community. Starting October 1, 2011 at Tea Lounge, it will conclude 4 weeks later with a Halloween Art Extravaganza on October 29, 2011.
About the Presenting Organization:
Founded in New York City in 2008 by Artistic Director Rakel Terceño, The Six Betweens Art Collective is a cross-cultural, multidisciplinary artistic platform aimed to promote art as a tool to transcend and transform ourselves and the world in which we live. Drawn together by the shared belief that making art is healing in itself and essential to having a deeply human experience, the Collective creates opportunities for both artists and audiences to experience each artistic language as one for expression without boundaries through workshops, demonstrations and performances, all of which will be part of the Revelry.
The theme Death-Rebirth-Freedom and the collective’s name, The Six Betweens, were originally inspired by the Tibetan Buddhist Bardo teachings, which describe the transitory stages in the life-death-rebirth cycle, and contain incredible imagery and wisdom. Other influences, including individual artists' life experiences, have further shaped the Collective’s approach to the main theme, culminating into individual artistic expressions of these most universal themes.
The Impact
Death-Rebirth-Freedom
REVELRY is a one-of-a-kind festival with a rare and ambitious vision. Conscious
of the high impact that art—and the creative processes that drive it—has in
shaping our world, the artists, partner organizations and REVELRY leadership
believe that this project is a necessary step towards strengthening an
ever-growing community of multidisciplinary artists who combine art-making with
the healing arts, and develop creative tools for self-exploration and growth.
Additionally,
we are committed to offering high-quality visual and
performing arts experiences that are accessible to all. Therefore,
admission to festival performances is DONATION based and workshop fees
will be nominal. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
We
call upon lovers of art and culture to help support, inspire, encourage,
sustain and REVEL in the creative energy and endeavors of our local, yet
universal, artistic community. We invite you to help Present our
unique Death-Rebirth-Freedom REVELRY in Brooklyn this October
2011—a transformational Arts Festival intended to be the first of many to
come.
Why You Should Choose THIS IndieGoGo Project to Support!
Let's face it, when it comes to donating your hard-earned money, there are plenty of projects from which to choose. Here's why you should choose our project:
1. We are fiscally-sponsored by the reputable non profit service organization Fractured Atlas. What that means for you?
Our project was rigorously vetted and deemed worthy of support, your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowable by law, and you will be issued a receipt for your generous donation.
2. 100% of your donation through our IndieGoGo efforts will go towards Festival Programming costs. What that means for you?
No part of your donation will be used to pay administrative costs. Few projects and non profits can say that!!!!
3. We know what we're doing!!!! What that means for you?
Both Artistic Director Rakel Terceño and Marketing/Fundraising Director Michele D. Goldberg have degrees in Arts Administration and over 35 years of combined professional experience in the arts, business management, marketing and more! Your generous donation will be wisely managed and spent. You can count on it!
4. You believe in making quality visual and performing arts accessible to all.
5. You'll get some cool perks!
What We Need & What You Get
We need to raise $10,000 to cover programmatic expenses for artist fees and production costs (we don't want to "starve" the artists). Be assured, the festival will go on if we don't reach the full goal amount. Your generous donation will definitely be used toward the stated purpose.
