There are some things better left untouched...
In 2011, a powerful earthquake triggered a tsunami that devastated Fukushima, Japan and sent hundreds of tons of debris into the Pacific Ocean. Years later, random Japanese objects continue to wash ashore on North American beaches -- from boats to motorcycles, mannequin heads to religious artifacts -- you name it.
DEBRIS is a short horror film about Royce, a down-on-his-luck treasure hunter who unearths a mysterious box that has washed ashore a California beach. He brings it home, not realizing it contains something inherently evil -- a cursed Samurai sword that could destroy him and everyone he loves...

Hi there! I'm Nicole Jones-Dion, an indie filmmaker in Los Angeles, CA. I'm primarily known as a horror writer (yep, a girl who writes spooky weird stuff!). Two of my feature films (DRACULA - THE DARK PRINCE and TEKKEN 2 - KAZUYA'S REVENGE) were distributed by Lionsgate Home Entertainment. I have projects currently in development with Sean S. Cunningham (creator of FRIDAY THE 13TH), and the SyFy Channel.
This past year, I've been branching out into directing -- over the summer, I co-directed a short thriller called DEVIL'S DEAL that will be released in 2015. Now I'm ready to tackle my next project, DEBRIS.
In DEBRIS, I wanted to explore the question of "what would be the weirdest / coolest / most dangerous thing that could wash ashore?" I researched Japanese mythology and folklore and found wonderfully creepy stories of cursed objects that are quite famous in Japan but not as well known in the US. The result is an East-meets-West horror story, a mind-bending cautionary tale of the dangers of looking for riches among someone else's misery.
We have partial financing for DEBRIS and have assembled an amazing cast and crew. Now we just need your help push it over the top and bring DEBRIS to life!

Our plan is to keep this production as lean and mean as possible. But there are still unavoidable expenses, such as:
- Blood. Lots and lots of blood.
- Food. Our crew aren't Breatharians. We need to feed them something. (Although if anyone knows where to find a good Breatharian crew, PM me...)
- We're going to shoot the bulk of the film on the beach or a private residence. But there are a few scenes that will require a sound stage.
- Speaking of sound, you gotta have good sound guys. It doesn't matter how great your film looks, if it sounds like crap, it IS crap.
- Boring stuff, like permits and insurance. This is a guerrilla production, but we're going to be shooting in public, on the beach, with weapons... so... rather than incur the wrath of the City of Malibu, we'll need to pony up to The Man.
- Other boring stuff, like post-production. Color correction, sound design, visual FX, music composition... All those things that are critically important to the final product but no one really talks about at parties.
- (Did I mention there would be blood??)
***UPDATE***
Thanks to your generous contributions, we were able to meet our original funding goal! That means DEBRIS will be made! Woo-hoo!
The original goal was the bare-bones amount needed to cover the costs of making this film. With your continued support, we can make it even better!
$6,500 - We can add an additional day of shooting to the schedule. An extra day will allow us to get more and better coverage of the fight scenes, the death scenes and (ooh la la) even the love scene. GOAL ACHIEVED!
$7,500 - We can add more visual FX in post-production. We're using practical effects for the blood and gore, but there are some things that just need to be computer-generated. Cheesy CGI can ruin an otherwise great film, so we'd love to be able to do this right! GOAL ACHIEVED!
$10,000 - We can take this show on the road! There are tons of great horror film festivals out there, so any funds leftover from production will go to make sure DEBRIS is seen by as many horror fans as possible! GOAL ACHIEVED!
$15,000 - Our crew consists mostly of volunteers who are passionate and enthusiastic about the film, but at the end of the day, they still have to pay their rent. Now we can actually afford to pay them a little something to reward them for all their hard work! GOAL ACHIEVED!
$20,000 - We really do have the Internet's best fans! Now we can add a really cool, kick-ass title credit sequence so we can spotlight our amazing supporters in style!
We can't tell you how humbled, thankful and excited we are about your enthusiasm for this project. Help us keep the campaign going strong and let's make DEBRIS an absolutely amazing movie!
