Deep End is a romantic fantasy drama telling the story of Adrian, who on a lake house getaway with his girlfriend Quinn, begins to get called to the mysterious waters, making him question how true is the love he has for Quinn, and for himself. This film is created by Point Park University Students for their Production IV thesis project. This is considered the final film for the students in their academic career, and with this, the crew embark on their most ambitious project to date, and we need your help!

With a project as ambitious as this, we are asking for help to make this film as realistic as possible, while also keeping the cast and crew, as well as equipment, safe while filming in the water. We will also be working to follow the guidelines established by the CDC to keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our biggest challenge in the production of this film is the production design, and creating a realistic looking mermaid for the end of the film. Our goal is to have a fantasy film connected with the naturalistic look of reality. This is ambitious and requires a good amount of funding, plus filming in water is a big risk. We are also filming during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that is an additional risk for us.

Katt Kersting is an aspiring artist who grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, currently studying for a BFA in Cinema Production at Point Park University. Since the young age of 10, Katt was always seen as unique, entranced by the whimsical works of director Tim Burton and obsessed with gory horror films. She has continued to develop her passionate crafts of special effects makeup, production design, directing, and cosplay costume-making in all of the stories she aims to share to those around her. As much as she loves being behind the camera, Katt also enjoys being in front, acting in any role that comes her way. Katt loves working her many performing jobs; a Scare Actress at the Scarehouse in Pittsburgh, PA and a Costume Character at Kennywood Park. More than anything, Katt is very blessed to be alongside her talented best friends to be bringing the magical and moving story of Deep End to life. She couldn’t imagine being where she is today without those who have loved and supported her to follow her dreams, and just like the protagonist of this story, to be true to herself.

Piper Srey is a film editor, sound designer and producer. Attending Point Park University and working on graduating with a BFA in Cinema Production, Piper’s main interest lies in oceanic documentary filmmaking. She is excited to keep creating and collaborating on films.

Sean Malady is a freelance filmmaker from Pittsburgh, PA, currently studying cinema production at Point Park University with a focus in cinematography. Beginning his work in production at the age of 14, Sean has looked to entertain people from short YouTube videos, to large scale short films and commercials. Having been on over 40 sets, most of them as the Director of Photography, he aims to give each film he’s on the best possible visuals and camera work.

Steven Miller is a Sound Designer from Sarver, Pennsylvania and is currently studying Cinema Production at Point Park University. He found a real niche for sound design in Sophomore year of college and has been striving to further his career in the field ever since. He has worked on over 20+ sets, all of which have been for sound. He is very much looking forward to working on a film of this quality and will put forth the most effort for the sound design.

Travis Platt is a producer, director, and editor, who was born in Blairsville, PA. With a passion for video production since the age of ten, Travis knew that filmmaking was the career path he wanted to take.  Once he reached high school, he went to a vocational tech school, where he won numerous film awards and had his work shown in film festivals all over the country. Travis was the SkillsUSA President and spoke at his graduation, and since then, has worked towards his career in film production, primarily focusing on producing and distribution. Travis has advanced his career greatly working for the Pittsburgh Film Office, Point Park University’s Online Division, the Pittsburgh Human Resource Association, and more all in video production, as well as creating live concert videos for nationally recognized artists. Travis has worked on over a dozen film productions, and on Deep End, Travis will be serving as Producer and Assistant Director for the ambitious project!
