Deja Blue- A BU Thesis Film
is a experimental student thesis film written and directed by a group of passionate filmmakers.
No Name explores dreamlike rooms in search of her identity, but as she dives deeper into herself, she may not like what she finds.
In order to bring this ambitious vision to life, we have to invest money into many different departments. To create believable scenes in a studio such as a police interrogation room, a quirky waiting room, a childhood bedroom, ect. we have to construct the sets from scratch. Along with this, each scene will have a different cinematic style that requires rented professional grade camera equipment and lighting.
Niccola Civita (Director) is a senior at Boston University, originally from Brazil. Following the success of his short film "Forgive Me Father," Niccola is excited to direct this even more ambitious new project. Niccola has been part of several professional film sets in Brazil, such as the Netflix show "Invisible City", learning from professionals in the international industry in both scripted and unscripted films. With a keen eye for cinematography and extensive experience working with camera crews, he crafts intricate shots that convey depth and meaning. Beyond his work behind the camera, Niccola is also a talented writer, showcasing his creative skills. In the future, he aims to continue his journey as a director, creating music videos, short films, and eventually feature films.
Annette Milburn (Producer) is a graduate of Boston University, originally from Rhode Island. She has worked on numerous BU-affiliated short films. From directing all-nighter music videos to producing a horror movie set on a lake to a church confessional short in a studio, she has discovered that collaborating with talented creatives to bring visions to life is her true passion. In the future, she aspires to produce films at independent film companies.
Mallory Holst (Co-Director of Photography) is a recent graduate from the cinematography program at Boston University. She has worked closely with Tim Palmer B.S.C. as a teaching assistant and gaffer. She has been a DP for several thesis films at Boston University, including Pas De Deux, an official selection for the Redstone Film Festival. She believes that creative and adaptable cinematographers have the ability to completely control the emotions of a film, using creative intuition to manipulate stories. Mallory looks forward to bringing her creative vision to this incredible story.
Andrew Kim (Co-Director of Photography) is a recent graduate from Boston University with a degree in Film & Tv. After looking through a camera viewfinder for the first time in middle school, he knew that nothing else would make him happier than to work behind a camera. For Andrew, cinematography perfectly balances technical and artistic skill, requiring both logical and creative thinking to craft stunning images within the constraints of film. He has worked on a number of short films while in Boston University and is excited to continue working in film for as long as he can.
Grace Roden (Production Designer) is a graduate student at Boston University, majoring in film and television. Having done many projects such as directing a music video and production design and several short films, Grace aspires to be a production designer for film companies such as A24. Grace Roden is moving to New York to pursue her dreams of becoming a production designer.
