DEMON PARTY : The Devil's Music part II
A few years back, thanks in part to funds raised on Indiegogo, I was able to direct my first feature film, "The Devil's Music", a retro horror comedy set in 1986. The film premiered back in 2012 at the Mascara & Popcorn Film Festival to an enthusiastic crowd and will soon be available on DVD in a few months.
A little after that, in 2012, I shot my second feature, "Killer in the Woods" which was for a while called "The Stuff Nightmares Are Made Of", as well as "Cacophony", before having settled on the current title. That particular film is currently nearing the end of post-production and will premiere this coming August, in Montréal, at this year's Mascara & Popcorn.
Now, this summer, I want to continue this winning creative streak and attack my third feature film, a direct sequel to "The Devil's Music", set in 1992, to be called simply and with devilish glee "Demon Party". The film will follow some returning characters from the first film, as well as newcomers, and none of them are completely safe as anyone can and will die at the hands of the new monsters that will feature in the film.
My first 2 films were budgeted certain amounts in order to be made with fewer compromises and intact vision, but being fully independent and with few backers, the projects were made the best they could be despite these shortcomings. This time, I want to make the best, funnest, goriest, craziest, sexiest film I can make and this is where all of you come in.
What We Need & What You'll Get
Break it down for folks in more detail:
- I have budgeted the film at 10,000$. With that amount, all the special effects I have designed can be realized, the camera and recording equipment can be updated, the cast and crew can be fully fed to keep morale high, and backup funds can be on hand when the unexpected happens. I will update this section with a more exhaustive list in the coming weeks.
- Starting at 5$, you get a special thanks credit in the film and on imdb.com. People who give more will receive fun swag like digital copies of the film, DVD copies of the films, past films and upcoming films on digital and DVD, soundtrack CDs, upcoming books and albums and other fun stuff.
- If the total goal is not met, the funds acquired will go to wherever they are needed most, in order of importance pertaining to what will show up on camera. In any case, the film will be made, but as stated earlier, I want to make it the best it can be.
The Impact
- This will be my third feature film so far, and in between each project my team and myself have improved with each undertaking. 2014 also marks a reemergence in productivity for us, having for the first time in years produced short films to accompany our feature film efforts. This year so far, we've released "Bleeding Gums" to good acclaim at the Mascara & Popcorn Body Horror Contest back in April. This short is also selected at the Little Nightmares Canadian Horror Shorts Festival in Hamilton, Ontario this coming June. Joining it will be our latest short film effort, "Don't Wake the Dead", shot in Cahersiveen, Ireland. Later this summer, we'll also premiere the spiritual successor to "Bleeding Gums", "Too Dumb to Die", another gory yet hilarious short.
Other Ways You Can Help
All this being said, we understand some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean you can't help in myriad ways, including:
- Make some noise about the project on social media, and around the watercooler at work.
- Share this indiegogo campaign to their friends online!
Hopefully, that answers the major questions. We will have a campaign video coming in early June, as well as more news and updates concerning cast, crew and designs and concept art.
