Detective Loki #1 Variant 

“Main Plot”

The Main Plot will focus on Detective William Loki of the Philadelphia PD.

Loki will start off the story with the murder investigation witch will lead him deep into the criminal underworld. Because of this Loki will cross paths with The Cover Society and its charter cast.
Not long after Loki will begin to unravel the plot against the city's Vigilantes by Damon Ize.
Ize himself will be the main antagonist however he will be mostly in the shadows at first.
As his plans will not come to light just yet. 

At its core this is a Noir Detective story. However, the main plot will also dive into the positives and negatives of vigilantism in a real-world setting, how it affects the people being protected by the masks and the people wearing them. The plot will explore the psychology of its main character cast and showcase the trauma these people might be going through as they put their lives on the line each day.
All of this will be complicated by the ever-increasing presence of cybernetics in our daily lives.
Side plots will include the development of The Covert Society with its current members as well
the hacker group PHOBIA.

The series will also explore the implementation of true character driven humor into the world and vibe of Noir. Allowing a world to be fantastic yet oddly real and relatable at the same time.

“Setting”

“Detective Loki” is set in a cyberpunk aesthetic Philadelphia of the year 2044.
Where the world is slowly starting to embrace cybernetics not only into the streets and city infrastructure but into the lives of people via cybernetic augmentation.
The City of Philadelphia became known as “Cyber City” due to the leading development and manufacturing company in cybernetics known as “Ize Tech”.
The private company that was started and still operates out of the city.

Back Story:

Vigilantes have been in the city of Philadelphia for 24 years, almost a quarter of a century and have become as symbolic with the city and culture as much as the city’s football team The Birds. 

In 2020 when the city was struggling to battle crime, drug and gang wars due to the very limited funds and resources available to the Police, the very first Vigilante known as Phoenix rose from the streets of Philadelphia to mainstream attraction as his heroics including crime fighting, drug busts, neighborhood patrolling and citizen arrests were documented and uploaded to his VidWorld channel in the hopes of scaring the rest of the criminal organizations in the city. This however led to the criminals aligning themselves with one another to stop him from taking any more money and control away from them.

What Phoenix didn't expect was that he would also inspire others to take up vigilante alter egos and fight crime alongside him in the streets. Not too long after Phoenix became an internet sensation more and more vigilantes started popping up around the city.
This is commonly referred to as the “Phoenix Phenomenon” by psychologists around the world as they believe the people of Philadelphia in such desperate times needed a Hero that was one of them, truly one of them, one that had felt their pain and suffering, someone that they could look up to in their most desperate time of need and be inspired to do the same.

Phoenix was very open to the public and media and still remains the so called “Extended Hand” of the masked world to the open one. He revealed many things including his extreme love for football, to his daily hobbies as well as informing the public that he had a PhD in Computer Science. 

Phoenix was able to fund this life type of lifestyle thanks to his smart financial investments at an early age. Unknown to the public he became a Multi-Millionaire worth over 700 million dollars. Owning a multitude of businesses around the world including his main asset which was a Computer software company.

By the end of 2023 there were two dozen Masked heroes in the city and together they formed a group known as “The Covert Society” with Phoenix voted as the Leader.
After this he decided to fully fund this operation and purchased a huge underground shipping warehouse right outside of Downtown Philadelphia that he converted into the group Headquarters and training facilitate. Here there was shelter for those would join their cause and abandoned their past lives. Phoenix went as far as paying people salaries for their work.
TCS as they were referred to would not only be recognized by the city and its officials but would also work shoulder to shoulder with the Philadelphia PD to help secure the safety and well being of its citizens. TCS would also do secret missions. These covert missions varied from small crime busts to large scale corruption take-downs all around the city’s metro area.

In 2036 Ize Tech opened its wallet to the city of Philadelphia as they provided millions of dollars in funding to the city’s police force. Thanks to this partnership Ize Tech was also able to arm the city’s finest with new and improved vehicles, equipment as well as firearms all which implemented the cyber technologies developed by the company themselves.
Year by year the city's allegiance grew thinner towards the masked hero’s that kept it safe for nearly two decades and thicker towards Doman Ize’s wallet.

In the year 2041 Phoenix tragically died from a fatal gunshot to the neck that he sustained during a pursuit of a Grand Theft Auto. His identity was concealed from the public due to the amount of respect the city and all its citizens had for him.
He was built a Memorial in Downtown Philadelphia where he was buried.
Not too long after the help of the TCS was deemed unnecessary by the city as they believed after Phoenixes death there would be no true leadership within the group.
The long lasting partnership between the city and the hero’s ended. Many masked hero’s hung up their alter egos in the closet to never be seen again. But not all left the fight, a few still remained. But the number of masked people in the city has fallen every year, and now less than ten Vigilantes remain in Philadelphia.

“Character Cast”

William Loki (age 41, 6’4, 215 lbs.) main protagonist.

The City's notorious and prolific detective who is famous for cracking unsolvable cases.
William has been a detective for 16 years and has built a reputation not only in the force but also in the criminal underworld as a man not to be pondered with. Loki has been known to get to the bottom of a case by any means necessary. He also is one of the last few remaining supporters of the vigilantes within the police force. Loki is still rumored to have been working with “masks” even after the police force deemed it “unnecessary”.

Damon Ize (age 46, 6’0, 185 lbs.) main antagonist.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, his early years were spent moving from one house to another as his family was of lower class and was always fighting to have food on the table and a roof over their heads. This did not stop him from graduating high school at the age of 11 and at the age of 16 he graduated MIT with a Doctorate in computer science.
Damon also recorded the highest IQ ever recorded with a score of 240. By age 20 Damon was one of the 100 richest people on earth thanks to his tech company known as "Ize Tech" that focused on computer engineering and software innovations. Due to all this extra income Damon started exploring the world of cybernetic enhancements not just to ease our daily lives but to make them better in every way. Thanks to this vision he grew his company to be worth over 15 trillion dollars and earned himself the titled "World's Richest Man".

Matthew Blinker (age 44, (6’0, 210 lbs.) AKA Griffin. Supporting character.

Personally trained and groomed by Phoenix.
A former Olympic competitor in gymnastics, Matt complements his strength and endurance whit his flexibility. He trained well and become a fierce opponent in any fight… even when he is outnumbered six to one. Complimented by his straighten is his critical thinking skills under extreme high pressure situations.  Due to his loyalty to the cause and the mission of The Covert Society, Phoenix named him second in command in late 2038.
After the tragic and unexpected death of the groups leader in 2041, Griffin was voted in as the leader of the Society and has since then made some notable changes.

Xander Collins (Age 40, 6’0, 200 lbs.) AKA “Mirror Face”. Supporting character.

Known as the ‘outsider’ of the group.

In college Xander studied psychology and even graduated with a master’s however in the year he graduated (2026) the great African War had started, and he deiced to join the US Navy. After a few years of service, he was able to move up into the Navy Seals Unit.
He spent over 7 years fighting the war until its conclusion in 2034.
He came back a home a different man… he went to work as a PTSD psychologist but as a few years went on he couldn’t just sit buy and talk to people about their problems. Xander knew he wanted to help people by protecting them before they ever experienced any type of mental trauma. He knew about The Covert Society and wanted to join their fight against injustice and crime, but had no clue how to get in contact with the group. 
He decided to get eye augmentation surgery in order to allow himself to read peoples pulses and see their body temperatures. He developed a mask from scratch that would enhance and protect his newly augmented eyes. On the outside its shaped like a curved mirror.
Xander did this on purpose as he believed people are most afraid of what they see looking back at them. He started doing vigilante work not there long after.
Every night for almost 6 months. Having his own way of doing things, he would implement intimidation tactics he learned in the Navy Seals and use his newly augments eyes as well as his knowledge of psychology to be able to tell if someone is speaking the truth or if someone was lying... and have mercy on anyone who lied.
He quickly become known as “Mirror Face” around the city. One night he was confronted by Phoenix and General Freedom while he was out looking for a suspect. They both expressed their interest in him but disapproved of some of his methods but both men believed with the right training he could become an unbelievable asset to the team and city.
Not there long after Mirror Face joined The Covert Society in 2039.
 

Gabe Crawler (age 43, 6’0, 205 lbs.) AKA “General Freedom”.  Supporting character.

Supporting character.

Gabe is an old school by the book’s kind of guy. A true patriotic American through and through.
He was a simple construction worker until one fateful night in 2031 when his brother was accused of a violent crime he did not commit. 
Because of this his brother was imprisoned, but Gabe did not give up.
Knowing his brother was innocent he started his own private investigation. Little by little, without noticing it he become very good at spying and gathering information, combine that with his incredible physic due to heavy work load on the construction site and his background in boxing as an amateur all through college, he was becoming a vigilante without even know it.
After months of hard work, he was able to prove his bothers innocents and all charges were dropped and the rightful criminal was brought to justice.
Phoenix had caught this on the news and found him not there long after.
He recruited him to be part of The Covert Society!
Gabe took the name “General Freedom” because he wanted to do for everyone what he did for his brother and be a symbol of freedom for all.
 

Vlad Varakossov (age 36, 6’5, 265 lbs) AKA "Bruiser Rhino". Supporting character.

Born and raised in Mother Russia, Vlad was brought up to be a hard-working family man. However he wanted to do something more with his life. He always dreamed about being an actor in Hollywood, even going as far as doing theater all throughout his school years. When his father died Vlad had to become the man of the house at the age of 19.
In order to provide for his family Vlad knew he had to make money and fast. The only way to do that where he was from was to fight in the underground fight club knows “Blood Merry” where men would beat the piss out each other in a cage. He knew he was not ready and dedicated all his free time to wight lifting and training in the martial art of Sambo. All while working 12 hours days at a factory.
A little over 3 years later Vlad made his debut in the cage and made a huge impression.
He dominated one fight after another, not because he was the best, but because of sheer will running through his veins. He knew that every fight he would win get him closer to getting his family out of the dumb they were in. After being undefeated for 8 years straight in the cage, he was able to save enough money to move his family to America where he knew they had a better chance at life then anywhere else. Little did he know he himself would be more lost then ever. After so many years of fighting he knew little else in this world.
He found work as a bouncer for huge night club in Philadelphia.
One night while working he beat up seven guys known  as“the death bunch” due to them causing a problem at the club. The gang was feared even by the club owner but not by Vlad.
After being humiliated they promised him he would regret it. A few weeks later he came home to find his little sister murdered and mutilated.
Vlad snapped and went on a spree of beatings unseen by anyone in the city.
Trying to find the gang and get his revenge. Doing so attracted a lot of attention. Thankfully for him he was approached by Griffin who promised to help him and bring the people that killed his sister to justice. Together they did just that, but a there was more to that story then either of them have lead others to believe.
Griffin slowly recruited Vlad to join The Covert Society and by mid-2042 he did just that.
Vlad was trained personally by Griffin who become his friend and mentor.
He took the name Bruiser Rhino because he knew that by one look at him and his name people would know who they were dealing with.

Gina Estrada (age 25, 5’10, 148 lbs.) AKA “WHITE FOX”. Supporting character.

Currently youngest member of The Cover Society.

What Gina lacks in age experience she makes in her god given athleticism.
In her ‘past life’ as she refers it to, she was an Olympic golden medalist in figure skating at the age of 18. Not to mention countless world titles. She finished figure skating at 21 because she wanted to finish her master’s in Business Analytics. Her second passion was the martial art known as Capoeira. She devoted all her free time to practicing it, even going as far as winning some major national and international titles.
a year after graduating Gina had discovered her family’s secret. Their near billion-dollar company was built on the back of her father’s criminal organization. She found out about all the crimes and horrors that were committed by her family and decided then and there that she never wanted to be a part of it. Dropped everything she moved to Philadelphia in order to find The Covert Society and devote herself to vigilante work so that she could create a new legacy for her family. It took her a few months to find them but in mid-2043 she joined the team after being recruited by Shadow Blade when he saw her saving a girl from getting raped by 4 men one night. 

Masaru Higashi ( age 27, 5’9, 170 lbs.) AKA “Shadow Blade”. Supporting character.

Masaru was born and raised in Osaka Japan. He comes from an ancient clan of Shinobis that have kept their family tradition of training all its generations in the art of Ninja. 
Even at an early age Masaru was far better at everything then rest of the children training with him.  He excelled in solving difficult problems and was undoubtedly the best fighter his clan has seen in ages. Near the completion of his training Masaru failed at one task that would set his life spinning into a spiral he could not predict. He was told to assassinate a man that was a danger to the clan. As Masaru arrived at the man’s house in the middle of the night, he saw him hold 2 infinite children in his hands and sing to them… that’s more then his father ever did for him...
He did not execute the mission and was exiled because of this.  To get a fresh start he moved to the US and started look for work, mostly privet investigator as his training allowed him to follow people and never be seen or heard. He made a decent living do.
In 2042 he crossed paths with The Covert Society while working a case, turned both him and the group were looking for the same person. Only Maseru had gathered much more accurate and highly detailed info in less time than the Society did. 
While seeing him in action Griffin was impressed and taking back by his ability to move in a fight, he saw huge potential in him and asked Masaru to join the team. Seeing this as an opportunity to use his skills for good he accepted the offer and has been known as the “eyes and ears” of the group in their most desperate time.
 

STRETCH GOALS!

Detective Loki is not made to be just 1 issue, we have plans to be a full 12 issue story!
If we get more funding the following stretch goal will make a few things a reality:

At $6,500 Issue #2 gets fully funded!
At $9,000 Issue #3 gets fully funded!
At $11,000 Issue #4 gets fully funded! This will also allow us to make an over 100 page Graphic Novel and in doing so publish the entire first Volume in one go.
