Disoriented is the semiautobiographical story of myself, my best friend Paul and my former roommate (and our mutual best friend) David. Paul and I had a "bromance" before they were cool and were often the target of homophobic jokes because of our over the top behaviour that usually incorporated singing, dancing and generally making fools out of ourselves. Quick with the joke was my roommate David, who fits none of the stereotypes of gay people, well, there is one: He enjoys sleeping with men. That's right, our main taunter was himself a homosexual, but also a great guy, and that is where Disoriented comes in. It's the story of two friends/roommates who don't conform to the normal ideas of their sexual orientation, and because of which often find themselves in amusing situations.
Conceived over dinner and raised on countless roommate quarrels the idea blossomed into a full fledge script about a year ago, and now in the hopes of proving the concept and getting something out there to help elevate myself and my goal of writing for TV I've decided to take the project from script to screen.
what we need:
I am a big believer in compensating people for their time. In a perfect world we would be able to meet the IATSE and SAG ultra-low budget minimums. In reality, I am hoping to do about half of that.
Our main costs are actors, crew and equipment rentals, but we also will need to build and/or buy props, get a couple of songs, feed everyone and secure some locations.
We are planning to shoot for 5 non-consecutive days, with a budget of roughly $1000 a day (the last day is a half day for pick-ups and title sequence). We are hoping to run a minnimum crew, but the daily breakdown (est) is:
- $200 equipment rentals
- $150 Catering and craft services.
- $300 for actors
- $350 For crew
As none of the networks buy indie pilots the main goal of the project is for it to be a resume piece for all involved. The best way to ensure this coverage and interest in the talents associated with the project will be through entering it in the festivals that accept indie and web pilots. Currently written as a "one-shot" ff there is a big enough audience the show could have more episodes.
Contribuiting to this project will be a direct contribution to the careers of everyone attached.
