Overview
District X examines Chicago Police Officers struggling with PTSD, while providing viewers with an uncensored look into the city’s most dangerous neighborhoods.

What is District X about?

District X chronicles Chicago Police Officers, while examining a frequently overlooked epidemic: PTSD. The film sheds light on the mental toll policing has on the human mind, while providing viewers with a firsthand look at the carnage of gang-related violence. Qualified and experienced officers (past and present), along with medical professionals, will explain the immense impact PTSD has on these men and women. We will be taken back to traumatic scenes, allowing each officer to tell his/her story. At that time, they will walk viewers through what happened and what they experienced.

Why is District X Relevant?

Police Officers are scrutinized now more than ever before in our country’s history. Specifically in Chicago, officers are constantly in fear of what their actions might mean after the fact. Abuse of power and authority are very different from one another. Abuse of power is something that no officer should ever practice, yet we are well aware that some do. Authority, however, is not only necessary, but something that is slowly being stripped away from officers city-wide.

Many will claim that there is a lack of respect towards police today, but perhaps there is just a lack of understanding. Police Officers run towards the sounds of gunfire and protect those in the face of danger, encountering the worst of the worst: murders, shootings, suicides, and accidents. These scenes far from infrequent. Depending on the time of year and/or district, these events may take place weekly or even daily.

District X will not only expose the traumas officers face, but also the traumas faced by the good and hard-working people of gang-infested neighborhoods. These fine men and women fear death every morning, noon and night and this documentary will ensure that their voices are heard

What is the Goal of District X?

This is where we feel District X will truly shine. Police/crime documentaries seem to appeal to a large range of demographics. Unlike documentaries that are anti-police, we want our audience to feel differently towards the police, but also have a better understanding of what is causing so much violence in Chicago. Upon leaving a screening of the film, our hope is that a dialogue will begin between the people and the police, aiming to bridge the divide between the two. Furthermore, we truly hope that more awareness will be brought to high-crime Chicago neighborhoods; More resources need to be put into education, the arts, athletics and of course, infrastructure.

What is My Donation Going Towards?

Donations will be used to complete all remaining interviews of Police Officials, along with officers suffering from PTSD. Field work will then commence soon after. Donations go towards changing perception. We’ll be able to successfully finish shooting this documentary and move straight into post-production. There is a very clear divide in our country between the people and the police. We aim to change that, and believe it is feasible. What's needed first, is the belief in this film. It starts here and it starts now.

Mental health is more relevant now than ever. There are two distinct groups of people who are overlooked; their situations being misdiagnosed by the media and strung up in politics. It is now time to bridge the divide and provide an unbiased look into policing, along with the lives they swear to protect.
