AB2E is our motto - Art Belongs to Everyone.

Art for Change (AfC) operates a small, storefront gallery in East Harlem. By using art as a tool, we strengthen our community by providing a community space, themed art workshops for children and their families, and cultural events.
East Harlem is a community rich in cultural tradition, and a community in the midst of transition. Though developments attracting new and more affluent residents give the illusion of improving economic conditions, in actuality, East Harlem is still considered one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York City.
AB2EKids - empowering youth to be their best, unique selves.
Our workshops for children and their families target, primarily, families in East Harlem. These interactive arts workshops engage youth and their families, encouraging them to have a voice, to be aware of their environment, and to celebrate our diversities.
Facilitated by local artists and activists, the workshops provide a safe place for empowering discussions about diversity, the environment, and constructive change - each workshop emphasizes our extraordinary, multi-cultural community, empowering youth to be their best, unique selves. For the artists, the workshops are an opportunity to share their work and to develop their teaching skills.
AB2E Exhibitions
Coordinated and curated by our dedicated volunteers, a sampling of Art for Change's exhibitions include:
(dis)located - A group art exhibition on the concept of displacement as it functions locally to exclude various groups of people. flickr photos
Sweat + Ashes - Curated by Micaela Anaya & Grace McElvoy of Illygirl, an Interventionist Arts Collective. Seeking to confront the comfortable by exposing the underbelly of globalization as lived by garment sweatshop women workers; to tear down the myth of U.S. exceptionalism by speaking to the third world experience of U.S. Capital Imperialism. Our purpose is to reveal truths through storytelling and to create consumer transparency through interventions. For more on the exhibit go to our website here. And check out Illygirl's website.
Know Gays Aloud - This group exhibition aimed to expose the violence and prejudice that LGBT communities of color have endured. flickr photos
A great article on the Know Gays Alound exhibition can be found on the art-of-inclusion blog by Stella, one of our fabulous teaching artists.
Rory Golden: Pack up a Little Truck and Keep it on Push: Works on Paper 2008 Forward - for more on the exhibition, see our website link.
