The Film: Beyond the Finish Line
Evergreen Trail Runs and New Sky Productions have partnered to follow the grueling and inspiring story of Marisa Pasnick, who is training for the intimidating Bigfoot 200 (that's 200 miles) race while confronting the challenges of an eating disorder. Why?
- Because we need to destigmatize eating disorders. People of all genders experience them, usually in private.
- Because Marisa is a powerful, resilient badass who has miles to go before she sleeps (bedtime's at 7 pm, thanks)
- Because recovery is ongoing. While every race ends, many people with eating disorders will always consider themselves in recovery.
- Because while training and recovery are solitary endeavors, they don't happen in isolation. We need you to help us notice, care, and tell this story.
What We Need & What You Get
Marisa is funding her own training (shoes, entry fee, food, headlamps, bandages, the will to keep moving) but filming is expensive! We've got drones in the sky and motion-stabilized video cameras. We've got remote shoot locations, from Marisa's childhood home on the mostly uninhabited Cypress Island to the deep backwoods trails between Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Rainier.
We want you to be immersed in the experience. Capturing the race day(s) experience alone will require hours of footage (if you have any leads on the real Bigfoot, let us know). To say nothing of editing it all so you get to experience Marisa's 15+ months of training and 5 days of running in 10-12 minutes (you're welcome).
If you join us in making this documentary amazing, we have some perks to thank you for your support:
- A high-quality "Beyond the Finish Line" sticker
- Set of four PNW Volcano topo coasters from local artisan Blackfish Crafts
- PNW Volcano topo wall art from Blackfish Crafts
- One free race entry to any Orca Running or Evergreen Trail Runs race
- Invitation to virtual movie launch, including Q&A with director, producer, and runner
- Invitation to VIP Premier Party
- Your name in the credits
- An Associate Producer Credit
The Impact
You may not know this, but there is a lot of shame around eating disorders. Disordered eating is more prevalent in the athlete population than the "normal" population and, for the most part, NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT. We want to bring this subject to the forefront and highlight a few important things:
- You are not your eating disorder. Your loved one is not their eating disorder. The stranger you don't know who has an eating disorder is not their eating disorder.
- With all its challenges, it is possible to have grand ambitions while balancing healing and a healthy relationship with food.
- This film will be inspiring, and it will be real. Because real life is inspiring, even when it's tough.
