THE STORY
Don is a reimagining of the classic novel Don Quixote, set in modern times. Where Don Quixote originally deals with the protagonist's quixotic imaginings in a comic manner, Franklin-Husser Entertainment LLC, uses the character's knightly vision of the world in the context of mental health. We get to view Don as a person dealing with a broken healthcare system, as well as the stigma placed on those with mental health issues. His great foe appears in the film in the form of systemic environmental attack from corporate greed.
The film will feel like a cross between “Fargo” “Pan's Labyrinth” and “Men In Black” with the framework of Don Quixote anchoring the narrative.
The themes of this film are timely, as we continue to witness an ill-functioning healthcare system, lack of resources for those suffering from mental health struggles, as well as the ever-present threat of environmental collapse. While these subjects can be hard to fully explore and understand, presenting them in the context of this film humanizes the issues, allowing for greater empathy and to instigate a call-to-action.
All phases of production for Don would take place within the greater Seattle area as well as a few other regions around Washington.

ABOUT US
![]()
Franklin-Husser Entertainment LLC, has been creating films through the lenses of sci-fi, horror, and comedy since 2013. Their latest short film "LOSS" explores a relationship between individuals suffering with dementia through the allegory of a zombie infection. Prior to that, their last feature length film "Dearly Departed" explores interpersonal relationships between individuals with anxiety and self-destructive idealism through the paradigm of the good old fashioned road trip. Don is a logical next step for Franklin-Husser works.
What We Need & What You Get
The funds we are raising will cover the production costs of the film. By donating to the production, you will be giving a living wage to over 30 professionals in the PNW as well as pumping money into the various businesses and locations where the film takes place. The amount may seem modest, but we are experienced filmmakers who have a talent for making every dollar count.
If the entire amount is not raised, we will produce what we can of the film and seek additional funding later.
The story is a surreal slice of life, with emotions ranging the gamut from lighthearted to intense. Instead of being slick and overproduced, Don will feel heartfelt and handmade, with care put into every shot of the film. You will feel like you grow with the characters and fall in love with them.
Risks & Challenges
Production will begin in 2024, with the film likely being finished in the same year. We will keep all supporters updated at every stage of the production and eventual release/festival run. We will also be in talks with reputable distributors to get our message to as large an audience as possible.
Of course filmmaking is a highly collaborative art with many moving parts. We feel confident through our years of experience that we can deliver a high quality product at minimal cost. We have faced many production challenges in the past and have been successful in overcoming every single one of them.
