Short Summary

The talent behind Doña Lorena is my mother. She's a passionate and experienced pastry chef who has been creating baked goods for the past 20 years. Although she has enjoyed working for French bakeries and cafés, she is the happiest when she creates custom cakes and sweets for individual customers.

For as long as I can remember, my mother has dreamed of having her own bakery. As the eldest daughter, I have watched her sacrifice herself for our family time and time again. Now that her children have grown, the time has come for my mother to dedicate herself fully to this long awaited project. Doña Lorena will allow my mother to utilize her professional pastry skills and return to her Salvadorian roots in order to create a unique brand of high-end artisanal sweets inspired by Latin-American flavors. It's an opportunity to finally expand her at-home business into a fully operational bakery.

What We Need & What You Get

  • In order to achieve this goal, we need a start-up investment of $ 27, 250. This amount includes the cost of a commercial space lease, equipment, furniture, décor, website design and advertising.
  • In return for your kind donations, you will receive fresh samples of Doña Lorena's artisanal products.
  • If we are unable to reach our financial goal, we will still move forward with the business launch, using a shared commercial kitchen until we can afford our own venue.

The Impact

  • Doña Lorena will not only add to the cultural diversity of the Montreal food scene, but it will also serve as inspiration to female entrepreneurs from immigrant communities.
  • Doña Lorena already has an established local client base that it has been catering to over the past few years. We want to expand that customer base and offer a wider variety of artisanal goods, a selection of vegan and gluten free products, a customized online boutique, weekly baking workshops and of course, custom cakes and cupcakes for every occasion :)
