Give The Homeless A Home-
Support the Dorothy Day House

For decades, we have seen how tough life can be for men and women who are living on the street. Saint Joseph's House of Hospitality, Rochester Catholic Worker Community, purchased Dorothy Day House as a '"Housing First" residence in 2013. The multiple-unit facility required more work than we anticipated. We need your help to turn it into a home.

As a "Housing First" project, our goal is to tackle homelessness. Many of our tenants would be on the street if it wasn't for the Dorothy Day House. It provides:

  • Safety in a caring community environment
  • Clean and warm apartments instead of freezing in a cardboard box
  • Easy access to community services and health care
  • Free meal across the street at Saint Joseph's House of Hospitality
  • A place for on-site counseling services, AA/NA meetings

There is no question that Rochester's street people are the forgotten ones. Too often they are the targets of intimidation and violence. Fear is their norm. Dorothy Day House changes all of that. It is a fresh start at life for all of our residents.

We Need Funds for:

  • Heat and repairs to maintain the property
  • To expand our apartment program
  • Construct exterior entranceway to community room
  • Community kitchen area, showers and bathroom
