Down East Maine Mission - 2016
For a second year I will be participating in a mission project with my church, and more importantly with my daughter. We will go back to East Machias, Maine from August 6th through August 13th to work with the Downeast Maine Mission (DEMM) program. I am ecstatic that my daughter will make the trip with me again... this time with even more enthusiasm and vigor, as she has come to appreciate the breadth of our collective impact. Whether you have the capacity to donate or not, please consider sharing so that we may reach a wider audience.
This program allows teens and adults to travel to Washington County, Maine, the poorest county in New England and help those in need. The work includes: Painting Insulating Carpentry Building porches and ramps Roofing Volunteering in a Migrant worker supply store. The goal of the Work-camp is to help make homes safe, warm and dry.
This will greatly improve the quality of life for people unable to repair and maintain their homes. Often the people of Washington County do not have the resources or skills to make simple repairs or keep their house painted and maintained. We provide the workers and materials and help those in need. During out trip, we have an opportunity to get to know the family we will be helping and they will get to know us. By the time we leave, we will feel more like neighbors helping each other.
