Brandon is hung up on his ex. Spiraling, he takes out his frustrations on the women around him. Unwilling to put up with the hold she still has on him, he begins an unsuccessful round of “speed-dating” which concludes with an inappropriate move on Jemma, a fellow party-goer. That night, Brandon falls into a deep sleep. In his vivid dream, his mind crafts “the perfect woman”. In doing so, he rips the fabric of reality and makes her real. Eventually, the two meet in his regular date spot. Once the two make their way back to his home Brandon falls into a lovesick trance in which he cannot escape her attention. As they spend more days locked in the house, the woman becomes less and less human until, inevitably, the idol of his desire consumes him.

Dream Girl 25-30 minute long short film which tackles the question of what happens when a person’s harmful standards alienate them from the world, leaving them in an echo chamber. It is a dramatic horror that utilizes uncanny valley, body horror, and psychological horror to create a thrilling cautionary tale.

In creating Dream Girl, we aim to highlight the types of harmful rhetoric that men like Brandon perpetuate. It implicates the audience, and asks them to think about Brandon’s outlook on women, and thus their own. Our goal is to advocate for anyone and everyone who has been affected by the unreal expectations and consequences of the patriarchy. Dream Girl takes those real-world horrors and personifies them as literal ones, showing them for what they really are.

We are now shooting to reach $2500, which will go towards making this production as incredible as we know it can be! The more support we get from you past our initial goal, the better this film, and Dream Girl herself will look! 

Where your money will go:

• Acting, especially in such intense roles, is hard work! We want to do our part and pay our group of talented actors what they are owed! You are helping us pay and feed them!
• Special effects are a crucial part of Dream Girl! We are currently securing a talented SFX artist. You will help us not only pay them but enrich the film with thrilling practical effects. They supply more than horror elements. They represent Brandon’s harmful ideas as they germinate and thus lead to his ruin. 
• Feeding our cast and crew. We plan to shoot long days and make sure that our team is treated well, which will also ensure that everyone can perform at their best! You can help us provide an amazing on and off-set experience!
• Location and set are a character within themselves and we intend to show it. Dream Girl is filled with rich locations that warp and change as Dream Girl casts her spell on Brandon. By donating, you’ll transform this set into a thrilling projection of Brandon’s desires.

Filming a long short film like this in under a month is challenging. But with our location locked down and decorated (with help from donations you make!) we can make the whole process exponentially easier for ourselves, and help speed it along. Making sure that we can hire an experienced special effects artist will also help tremendously in keeping us on schedule, as our crew will not have to try to pick up the slack on their own.
