Our Story
“Wouldn’t it be great if we could put our dumbbells on a bar?” This was my son Adam’s question to me while we were exercising. Dualbell became the answer.
Dualbell is a collaboration between a father, his son, and an old college friend.
Like all good ideas, we didn’t get here overnight. There were drawings, conversations, many prototypes and countless hours of testing and development.
I had my own ideas, but in a "teachable moment", I asked Adam to put his thoughts to paper. That question gave Adam an opportunity to take a very abstract problem and draw up his solution.
With the pandemic marginalizing my job in the fitness industry and people opting for home workouts over gym visits, I decided that this product could really help people. After several of my own iterations, I called my friend Roy, who is an architect, designer and patent holder.
Roy quickly understood the concept, benefits and my passion for the idea. We were on the same page right from the start. As we talked, Roy sketched out my description, modifying and fine-tuning the design. In less than 48 hours, we had a working prototype.
There were, and still are, two priorities in the design: safety and simplicity. Our goal was to create a product that could safely hold a 50lb dumbbell and be simple to use. And we have met that goal.
We wanted to make sure that using the Dualbell was just as easy as adding a weight plate to a bar. Mission accomplished. The Dualbell is hinged at the bottom, so it's easy to wrap it around a dumbbell handle, pick up and slide onto the bar. Yes, it's that easy.
We now had a working prototype. But, we weren’t done. Over the next weeks and months we tested, discussed, iterated and tested many versions of Dualbell.
As our confidence in our design grew, new hurdles had to be overcome. We successfully pushed the PLA prototype to hold 50lbs without any issues, making it possible to load a bar with a 50lb AND a 45lb dumbbell on EACH side of the bar. Using two pairs of Dualbells, we created a total weight of 190lbs on the bar using standard dumbbells.
When we added two Dualbells on each side of the bar, we noticed that the weight had a tendency to rotate on the bar at slightly different rates. So we added a spacer that has teeth that interlock the two Dualbells so they act like one component.
After several iterations, we had a product that had all of the necessary features. We began seeking an engineer who would design the parts to be injection molded out of polycarbonate.
Finding an engineering partner that was experienced and displayed a genuine interest in the product was important to us. Our prototype received high marks from the engineer. It would still require his decades of expertise to make the transition from our prototype to injection molded product.
We paid for the engineering design up front, so we would have more than just the proof-of-concept prototypes that we have made on our own. We now have all the cavity mold drawings and are working with a manufacturer on final quotes and adjustments.

Above you will see an SLA (stereolithography) print-of the final production design prototype. The SLA print gave us and our engineer an opportunity to check critical dimensions and clearances prior to our manufacturer making the molds. Our molder has already been selected and they are only waiting on us to give them the go ahead.
Because we believe in Dualbell’s ability to bring muscle building to any fitness level and budget, we’ve put our own money behind it. We’ve funded everything up to and including the engineering and we will be funding the molds ourselves as well. The money we raise on Kickstarter will be used to fund the first production run, as well as packaging and safety testing.
With the help of the Indiegogo community backers, we’ll be ready to get the Dualbell into your hands and give people like you the ability to add this product to you own workout routines. Dualbell is for anyone looking to enhance their exercise opportunities while saving space and saving money.

Shipping, Customs & Duties Notes
Shipping costs will be collected after the conclusion of the campaign. We will send you a link by which you can pay for shipping.
Please note that you may be responsible for duties and taxes applicable to your country. As we are shipping the rewards to countries outside of the USA, it is impossible for us to build in the various duties, VAT and GST tax for each location through Kickstarter.
For international backers outside of the USA who may be required to pay customs, you should receive an e-mail from the shipping provider or your local customs authorities asking for payment to have your order processed through customs. Once you make that payment to the customs office your order will be processed for final delivery.
If the shipping carrier attempts delivery to you and you don't get it because you’re not there, wrong address, moved without notifying us, and the package returns back to our warehouse, it will be the buyer's responsibility to pay the shipping fee to reship the order. When you receive your tracking number, please keep an eye out for the package.
