A short film about loss and connection
Dust Light is a simple but layered story that reflects the complexity of life, inside and out. The film sets out the explore the meaning of life and death, and the existential crisis of adulthood in a lyrical but relatable way. Through the themes of loss, grief and solitude the protagonist embarks on an intimate journey, looking for the pieces of herself that she lost along the way, and carries us away with her in a quietly exhilarating ride.
We invite you to join us!
Matina is facing pivotal life issues: the end of her marriage, a career that no longer makes her happy, a midlife crisis. She’s also tasked with having to clear out her long-gone mother’s things from the family summer house. After she arrives at the house she begins to unravel, as past and present collide, until she reaches a personal epiphany.
There are moments in life that we all at some point go through, losing a loved one, growing older, being alone again. In this story, I’m interested in exploring the space between closing one life chapter before opening a new one. There are moments of loneliness and reflection that occupy that gap where we have the opportunity to reconnect with our essence. This film is an invitation to take a moment and reflect on moments like these and connect with a story that aims to give you a sense of belonging.

Dust Light is part of a bigger project and it’s the first film of the Mental States anthology to go into production. Mental States is an anthology of three short films exploring the beauty and pain of being human. The ideas for the three films were born out of the need to be more creative, bouts of existential crisis, and considering how the modern world affects our mental state. Therefore, their themes are anchored in existentialism, mental health issues and the link between thought and emotion - bringing the inward outward and the outward inward. The two other shorts that complete the anthology, The Lump In Her Throat, a lyrical tale about depression, and Bugs In Amber, an existential relationship drama, will be produced later in 2020. Chryssanthi is the writer and director of all three films.
