Ich habe vor zwei Jahren meinen Digitalisierungsservice www.Eridian.de gegründet. Für Verlage und Autoren digitalisiere ich schon seit geraumer Zeit Bücher. Nun habe ich einen neuen Kundenkreis für mich entdeckt. Sehbehinderte und Blinde Menschen, die Bücher nicht mehr auf herkömmliche Weise lesen können (siehe hierzu § 45a UrhG). Mit und durch die Unterstützung des ABSV ist mein Service in dieser Zielgruppe mittlerweile recht bekannt.
Nun möchte ich noch einen Schritt weiter gehen und den Sehbehinderten und Blinden eine barrierefreie Internetplattform bauen, auf der Sie untereinander (mit ihren Freunden) digitalisierte Bücher tauschen können. Ich habe sehr konkrete Vorstellung wie dies mit den aktuell bestehenden Gesetzen konform geht.
Erste Rücksprachen mit Rechtsanwälten, die spezielisiert sind auf das Urheberrecht, bestätigen die legale Umsetzung diese Projekts.
Die meisten Bücher, die wir in unseren Bücherregalen zu stehen haben gibt es nicht in digitaler Form. Sehbehinderte können aufgrund Ihrer Einschränkungen papiergebundene Bücher nicht mehr lesen und benötigen ein digitales Format, dass es Ihnen erlaubt die Schrift zu zoomen.
Kunden können mithilfe der Internetplattform nun Ihre eingescannten Bücher untereinander tauschen, so dass sie auf einmal auf eine große Bandbreite von Büchern zugreifen können, nicht nur auf die eignen eingescannten Bücher. Die Einschränkungen von Sehbehinderten und Blinden werden somit ein wenig kleiner.
Weitere Möglichkeiten: Webbasierter Player zum direkten vorlesen der Bücher. Durchsuchbare PDF-Dateien lassen sich allein schon mit dem Adobe Acrobat Reader vorlesen. Hier gibt es aber bereits weitaus bessere Software auf dem Markt, die von dieser Zielgruppe bereits genutzt wird (z. B. der Screenreader)
Wieviel Kapital wird benötigt und wie werden unsere ersten Schritte aussehen?
Ca. 50.000 € wird für das Gesamtprojekt benötigt. Nach der Erstellung der Seite www.swapswipe.com/beta (Betaphase) soll eine Anschlußfinanzierung folgen.
Funktionsumfang der Seite:
Wichtigster Punkt: Die Internetseite www.swapswipe.com wird in Ihrer funktionsweise barrierefrei aufgebaut (sehbehinderten gerecht).
Jeder Kunde bekommt einen Account. In diesem Account werden seine eingescannten Bücher direkt nach dem Scanprozeß hochgeladen.
Die durchsuchbaren PDF-Dateien werden dem Kunden in verschlüsselter Form, mit Wasserzeichen (Namen des Kunden) und einer Zeitbome online zur Verfügung gestellt. Sofern der Kunde selbst sich das Buch auf den Rechner lädt, kann er dieses 30 Tage lang nutzen/lesen. In diesen 21 Tagen wird das Buch online nicht mehr abrufbar sein und kann somit nicht zum Tausch angeboten werden. Nach 21 Tagen erscheint die PDF wieder im Account, da die Zeitbombe die heruntergeladene Datei unbrauchbar macht.
Sofern ein Tausch mit einem Freund zustande kommt, wird die Datei von einem Account in den anderen übertragen, so dass der Verleiher das Leserecht an seinem Buch für 21 Tage abtritt.
Die Seite wird vorraussichtlich gegen ein geringes monatliches Nutzungsentgelt verfügbar sein. Verleiher bekommen sogenannte "Swaps" für jeden Tausch (virtuelle Währung), die Sie in Sachwerte eintauschen können.

Two years ago I started my digitalization service www.Eridian.de. I have been digitalizing books for publishing companies and authors for a long time. Now, I have discovered a new group of customers. Visually impaired and blind people, who cannot read in the traditional way. By the support of the German Society for the blind and visually impaired my service has become popular among that audience. The § 45a UrhG (german copyright law) allows me to do this.
I want to go one step further and design an internet platform for the blind and visually impaired where they can share digitalized books among each other and with their friends. I have exact ideas how this can be compliant with the current laws.
Most books which we have in our shelves are not available in a digital form. Visually impaired cannot read paper-bound books because of their handicap any more and need a digital format, that allows them to zoom. Blind people need the book in a text format (.txt) so that they can have it read out aloud on special devices as for example the "Daisy-Player".
Some of our customers buy books and have us digitalize them for a price that is below the price of the corresponding e-book if that even is available.
Customers can now, by means of the internet platform, trade their books among each other so that they can access a great variety of books and not only those they themselves had digitalized. The impairment of the blind and visually impaired thus becomes smaller.
Consultations with lawyers confirm the possibility of a realization compliant with the law. (in Germany)
Opportunities for the Website:
Webbased player to read the books aloud. Searchable PDF files can be read out aloud by means of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Here, much better software is available on the market however, which could be made use of for the internet platform.
The platform
Eridian wants to create an easy access to any given book for the blind and the visually impaired. Thereby the quality of life of this group of people can be increased granting them access to education and entertainment.

You can compare swapswipe.com with the swap opportunity by Amazon and Barnes & Nobles. The diffrence will be that your scanned books uploaded on the platform (by eridian.de) will stay in your property.
However, purchased e-books cannot be offered for trade on this platform except if the publishers can be convinced to work with us and an enlargement of the concept is made possible. We want to create a legal, internet based access to books that can be compared to the business models in the music industry (monthly fees pay for an unlimited number of songs).
The Website will start for the handicaped people in Germany but I would like you to start scanning books for them in your own country and use swapswipe.com for your customers. Germany ist already reserved, sorry!;-)
Did you knwo that there are 285 mio. visiually handicapped and blind people worldwide out there?
What do we need?
Money to create the internet platform. Money for new employers and maybe new scanner (scanner that do not destroy the books / often asked).
I do not require funds for marketing since these funds are generated by my core business.
First Step
The first Step will be to create the internetplatform. Responsable for this field will be www.bytepark.de. Bytepark has already created the website www.eridian.de. (have a look at their references)
I hope that the work can start in November, so we can see in January first results.
