Earl  & The Big Blue Bear is a short senior thesis film written & directed by Gregory Delgado, a graduating student at Columbia College Chicago.

Logline:  A schizophrenic thief desperate for cash hatches a plan with his talking stuffed bear to rob a self-centered diamond collector.

Genre: Dark Action-Comedy

Synopsis: We are introduced to our main characters, EARL and BEAR as they are beaten by two loan sharks, just before being robbed of all their cash. As they recover, Earl and Bear spot ROBERT, a random civilian walking towards them. Bear points out the diamond bag Robert is carrying as he enters a diner, hatching a plan to rob him together.

The duo follow Robert inside, observing him from a distance as they wait for the right moment to approach. Earl manages to steal a seat near Robert and offers him a “diamond” for sale. Robert suggests they meet at a later date, but Earl insists on closing the deal immediately. After rejecting Earl’s offer, Robert is interrupted by a call from his wife, rushing him to leave. Earl, not willing to let the deal slip away, follows Robert outside. Bear urges Earl to close the deal or face consequences.

Earl pesters Robert, who reluctantly buys the fake jewel to finally make Earl go away. Earl demands a handshake to seal the deal but refuses to let go. The two struggle, until Earl strikes Robert, knocking him out cold and bloody. The pair snatch the diamond bag and eagerly anticipate their reward. As Robert’s phone rings, Earl hesitates, a flash of guilt creeping in. He wonders if he’s made the right choice. Bear dismisses his concerns, pushing Earl to focus on their own needs. Earl nods, and they flee with the stolen goods.

With your contribution, you are helping us get one step closer to making this passion project a reality. Below we have shared our schedule for production and a budget breakdown of our $1,500 goal.

BREAKDOWN

  1. As shown, most of the budget will go towards securing our location for filming. We will be working with a local business for the duration of our production, and want to ensure the business owners are paid fairly for their collaboration.
  2. Every cast and crew works best on a full stomach. Your contribution will ensure our amazing filmmakers are properly fed with a warm meal.
  3. Contributions to the art department cover the film's costumes, Hair, FX Makeup and props throughout production.
  4. We know life happens, which is why contingency will cover any sudden changes and setbacks that we encounter on the way so we can adapt efficiently.

Any leftover funds from the campaign will be invested into distribution and film festival submissions.

Every dollar counts towards our final goal, and we are very grateful for every kind of contribution that we earn. Can't contribute? No problem! You can still support us by sharing the campaign and making sure to follow us on Instagram @earlandthebigbluebearfilm
