Worst Prom Ever.
East Hollywood High School is proud to announce our latest project, Worst Prom Ever! This film is extra special to us, not only because it's an 80's monster movie (two genres that we love dearly), but because it's our most daring project yet.
This film starts as what seems to be a typical John-Hughes-esc 80s high school movie: four teenagers at prom and all signs point to it being the worst prom ever. Things couldn't be more terrible, right?! Well... it does when our students let a blood-thirsty sci-fi monster lose on the school. Can they work out their beefs with each other and save the student body from what could be not only the worst prom ever... but the end of their lives.
East Hollywood High School
We're a charter school for talented youth. When we produce films, we give these kids the opportunity to gain experience not only working in the fields that they want to get into, but also to gain the experience of responsibility and leadership.
By donating to this project, you won't just be helping us create a film, you'll also be helping us teach students the lifelong lesson of working together and problem solving, which is taught on a set.
East Hollywood has a successful history of creating award-winning film projects. You can check some of them out here:
What We Need
Since this film is set in the 80s, we're going to need to sew/buy lots of costumes, props, and set dressing that will make for an authentic 80s feel. Since many of this stuff is considered vintage now, it can be more expensive than you'd think. Oh... and we have to build an authentic-looking scary monster. That is going to cost money.
We've already raised $1000. With this Indiegogo campaign, we hope to raise at least $1000, hopefully much more than that. Then, we hope to get another $2000 of donations from other sources. This will give us at least $4000 (again, hopefully more) to spend on the following:
- Materials to sew costumes for the lead actors.
- Used prom dresses and suits from the 80s that we can alter to fit our background actors (we'll need 60+ of these).
- Supplies to design a monster. This will probably be a costume with a puppet head. But who knows?! The students will do a class where they'll figure out the best way to do this.
- A realistic-looking bunker door for the set where the characters will originally discover the monster.
- Authentic-looking props and set dressing that will convince the audience that this is a legit 80s setting.
- Professional mentors who can help hand-picked students do the final colorizing and sound mastering at the end of the process. This will be a great chance for said students to network with industry insiders.
Your contribution won't leave you empty handed. By donating you will receive one of our many perks! In fact, if you donate $100 or more, you could be responsible for choosing Will McAllister's nickname!
What this project means
Each of these films could mean the future of each one of these kids. You never know who could make it, and you never know how your contribution could be the push that starts a successful career
East Hollywood High School's past films have gained recognition from many film festivals, such as the Utah Film Festival, Maverick Movie Awards, LDS Film Festival, and more!
What we're up against
This is our most ambitious film yet, with set design, costume design, and special effects!
If we're able to raise enough money, we can afford to put the time and effort we need into each of these challenges.
Other Ways You Can Help
We'd love it if everyone who read this shared this campaign with at least three friends along with an endorsement of the good we're doing!
The following donations or volunteering would also help a ton:
- Any prom dresses or suits in pastel colors that look like they're from the 1980s.
- A vault-like door that a person can fit through that looks like it could go on a bunker.
- Healthy snacks.
- Help transporting students.
- Help building sets.
- Help sewing or altering costumes.
Or if you'd like to donate/volunteer, contact us at jwagner@ehhs.us.
Thank you so much for any and all contributions you can provide to creating this project.
