Educational materials for refugees in Greece
OUR GOAL
We are providing refugees with structured educational materials to support their learning of different languages.
The will to learn and the desire for education is strong, but proper books, apps and exercises are rare. Since resources are scarce, volunteers, teachers, adults, parents and children are often obligated to use learning materials which lack structure and quality.
We want to support “Lesvos Solidarity” in building a basic repertoire of education materials which will be available to everyone for free.
Your support will enable refugees to use their time on Lesvos productively, continue their existing education in their respective languages and prepare for the upcoming challenges which await them in their new lives in Europe.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY
Thousands of refugees are currently trapped on Lesvos, as well as on the other Aegean islands.
After undertaking the perilous and traumatic journey from Turkey on a heavily overloaded dinghy, a refugee will usually stay between 9 months and 1,5 years in one of the camps on the islands. Forced to wait for the long-lasting bureaucracy process, the refugees time spent on Lesvos often becomes a period of stagnation rendering intellectual development virtually impossible.
The “transit point” Lesvos has thus become a long-term waiting hall for people seeking asylum in the EU.
OUR PROMISE
Every donated euro we receive will end up at this project.
OUR TEAM
Lesvos Solidarity is an independent refugee camp in Mytilene, Lesvos (Greece), providing humanitarian support to the most vulnerable refugees including families with children, pregnant women, refugees with disabilities, refugees who suffer from serious medical conditions and victims of shipwrecks who have lost loved ones at sea.
Today Lesvos Solidarity offers a home to 87 residents.
The main objective of Lesvos Solidarity is to stand in solidarity with the refugees, particularly those who are most vulnerable, through providing shelter, protection and raising awareness. The camp is founded on principles of solidarity, respect for human life, non-discrimination, non-violence and volunteerism.
