Our Story

Hello people of Earth, my name is David Cano, director and co-writer of El Cu Cuy.  With the spectacular help of a great cast and crew we did a short film by the name of El Cucuy.  It is about a little boy named Carlos who comes from Mexico with his mom to live in the United States.  He is lonely and his whole world has changed.  He finally does make a new friend, El Cucuy, the boogie man of Mexican folklore.  Everything is going great until Carlos also befriends a little girl from school which El Cucuy is not to happy about it and turns into a true monster.

It's All About the Music

Principle photography is done and the film is edited.  However, in order to submit to festivals we need to have an original sound track.  I was fortunate to have Vassilios Makavos be in the audience for an early screening of the film.  He is a composer and conductor with two original scores under his belt.  He felt a connection with the film and wanted to contribute pro bono to which I was grateful.  However, there are still costs involved in the recording of a score.  That's where we need your help!  With your donations we can finish up the rest of the film and begin to submission process to festivals.  Your help will be greatly appreciated and you will be a part of something special that I can everyone involved in this film will be extremely grateful.

The Big Score

This film deals with the melding of cultures and we want to do something similar to that with the score.  Vassilios has put together a forty piece orchestra which along with traditional instruments also includes a tuba, guitar, and accordion to fuse the sounds of the classical with traditional, regional Mexican music.  Vassilios as the composer and myself as the director also want to involve the music with the idea of reality and fantasy which makes us really excited for the final product.
